What wide-eyed waking do you keep?

Those wild, tormented features

Warn of madness that shatters sleep

And tell off shadow darkened creatures

What savage dreams abound?

Vultures of the mind ever circle

Mocking, baying round and round

In fear and fright, you hurtle

Then like a quake its venom spent

Welcome comes the silent dawn

The furies nigh time sent

By daylight’s welcome yawn
