CHAPTER FIVE: PIECES

Mrs. Benson looked mortified, she looked so scared and bewildered all at the same time. Her face was pale, and her eyes were sunk in. It was as if she had seen a ghost. The guys brought her in the house and sat her on the sofa. Her red hair was fried and uncomfortable; her black eyeliner and mascara was smeared down her face, and her lips were trembling, like a scared puppy dog.
"Victoria?" My mom's soft latin voice and understanding face only made Mrs. Benson's (in my opinion) predicament more sickening.
She looked at my mother, with her bubbled up blue eyes, as tears strolled down her face.
"I had," she took a breath and touched her fingers to her half swollen lips, "I had a dream that Blair was in her room with a gun to her head just staring at me with hate in her eyes, I tried to run towards her to grab the gun but the room kept getting longer and longer, and I kept running and running as fast as I could; but nothing helped it was like I was in slow motion." She began to hyperventalate. " Before, I knew it the room was ten miles long, and I....she.. the gun. And then she shot herself." My mom cradled her in her arms as fell to pieces, and sobbed uncontrollably. All the men didn't know what to do, they just all went to the back porch and sat in the lawn chairs by the pool.
The old creep was acting as if nothing happened, as if he didn't make a pass at me; as if he didn't cuss at me. Oh the rage was still burning inside me, but I had to control myself.
Levi and my brother were catching up on the years they missed out on with eachother. Guess they had some kind of a bromance, way back when.
Later that evening, when everyone was parting ways, Dane announced that Levi would be staying with him at his house for a couple of weeks. What a surprise? My mom offered for him to stay here, but he felt as if he would be intruding. My dad didn't really say much. I don't think he was really to happy for the Old Creep to be in our house. My mom wasn't to chipper to have him here either, guess he gave us all a little bit of suspicion. He was quiet and kept to himself. His small talk consisted of talking about football and the old question about the cities' baseball team, "So how bout them 'Stros?" No one really cared to answer him, but my dad did anyway.
"Well they suck this season, and every other season." My dad was a man of few words, but when he had to use them he did. I guess he didn't want to make the moment awkward. My question was, why was her brother even here? Didn't she have other relatives, and if he was her only close relative... Why isn't he with her, why is he in here? Something about him, made my skin crawl.
"Mrs. Sandone, it was a pleasure being here tonight, thank you for letting my sister stay with you. But do you think it is okay to have her right next door to her house, where the crime scene is?"
"No offense, Mr. Flooks-"
"Please, call me Tucker." My mom looked at him with a cocked eyebrow, but a smile.
"Okay, Tucker I don't want that sick husband of hers to come looking for her, and her broken hearted sympathy and fragile state of mind. Sure times are tough, and I don't really understand her emotions, because I am not in her shoes. But I will not have that Scum Bag of a husband try to persuade her. No man is ever suppose to lay a hand on a woman. He's lucky it wasn't me, I wouldn't of just took that." He was smiling as my mother ranted.
"I agree, with every word. I am sorry for questioning you, ma'am. I must go please tell my sister that I love her and will see her tomorrow after work, and after I get back from the store... I couldn't find what I was looking for today." He shot a glance up at me, and I stared right back.
"Ha, yeah bet you didn't." My mom looked at me with shock as he smirked and then walked out.
"What was that about, Honey?" My mom stared up at me, but this time her glance was just curiousity.
"Oh nothing he came to my store today, that is all.. and well he didn't find what he was looking for." I smiled and looked at Levi who was staring right back up at me. My brother looked confused and so did everyone else, but Levi knew it all.
"Well, everyone needs to get to bed it is midnight, and I have to wake up in six hours; so bye get out." My dad stomped to his room and waved goodnight as he shut his bedroom door.
"He is just tired. You all becareful driving, and Levi if Dane doesn't treat you right and isn't a good host you can come here."
"Thank you Mrs. Tanya but I think we will be okay, goodnight everyone... goodnight Honey."
"Night, see ya."
The whole night I layed in my bed and felt so lost, more than lost I felt like my world was colliding with a bad luck cloud or something. Like they say Life is tough, so get a helmet; but I think I would rather get a bat.
