Poetry for Poofs
Poetry for poofs
Scribbling for benders
Harder than it looks
Nancy boy offenders
Real men drink ale
Hoarse from rugby sonnet
But even rugby hard men
Sometimes wear a bonnet
To keep their ears their own
Fight, curse and chew the colli
Love letters possibly
But poetry is folly
Never won fair heart
Writing faint and drippy
Swill lager; keep 'em keen
Not the love struck hippy
Penning flowery verse
Limp wristed, fey, affected
Little wonder girls
Stamp all queers "Rejected"
Never read a word
What is a war poet?
Can't be worth a read
If it was, I'd know it
Words to make us think?
Reflect on our condition?
Real men test toe-end
Approach with much suspicion
Once I yearned to know
Another's inner feelings
But a poetry omnibus
Had me gazing ceilings
Maybe when it's dark
And no-one is about
I'll disguise into the library
And anthology take out
No promise do I make
To get beyond the cover
But I haven't felt quite right
Since I lost my lover
I still wonder why she left
Is it explained in here?
I might give it a chance
Before solace in a beer
It can't be hard to write
All moon and June and roses
Feel stupid to recite
Like carrying little posies
I've sat here for a time
Written nothing on the paper
Can't string two words together
I'll telephone, it's safer.
And just maybe I'll revise
My jaundiced view of poets
They may write a pretty line
But still in the backside stow it
