The Three Gardens. Part Four.

The skip that Tony had hired wasn’t outside my home as the Company don’t have a permit to be on the road, so it is 50 yards away in a cul-de-sac around the corner.
One day, recently Tony had a phone call from the Association who owns the cul-de-sac they said to him, “Move the skip today or tomorrow or you WILL be fined as it is on our private land!”
Tony was working at a different site on the day of the phone call, he then rang me to let me know. Tony drove over to the skip; it was then he noticed to his horror that someone had put a very large sofa on top of my now full and hired skip!
Tony rang the Association back and said, “There is a very large sofa perched on top of the skip, I did not put that there, nor does it belong to my Client, whose garden I am doing up.” The Man for the Association said, “And your point is?” Tony said, “I am going to take it off and put it at the side, next to the skip, as I didn’t put it there.” The Man said, “If you do that, the Association WILL fine you for fly tipping!”
Tony rang the skip Company leaving them a message and told them what had happened and added, “I will break up the sofa, if you take the sofa too, I will add £20 of my own money onto the £120 my Client will be paying you as agreed.” Tony was worried and angry, as was I.
The skip Company, as Tony worked, left him a voice message to say, “We will collect the skip today.” They didn’t collect the skip.
The following day the skip Company, didn’t collect the skip.
On the third day, there was a knock on my door, it was a young man who was collecting the skip for the Company, I gave him the money and I said, “Please check that the amount it right, £120.00,” He said, “The amount is £150,” I replied, “No it isn’t, it’s £120.” For that was what the skip Company had told Tony it was and in turn Tony had told me, “Whatever happens you must only pay £120 and no more, I will add my own money for the sofa that someone has added and making the skip full to overflowing.”
I told Tony, “The Man has just been to collect the money for the skip,” Tony asked me, “Have they taken the sofa too?” I replied, “I don’t know as I’m still in my pyjamas.”
Tony was so worried that they might have left the sofa, which would then give him a fine for fly tipping, that he left the other garden that he was doing and drove over to have a look.
They had thankfully taken the sofa too. People are so thoughtless. Putting something small into a skip that doesn’t belong to you is one thing, but putting a whole three-seater sofa is another thing!!!
That day Tony and myself learnt something new about skips, the Law is an ass!
