Everett found himself jogging down Veteran's Boulevard at breakneck speed. After the sweltering weather of late,he welcomed the rain.He spied Celeste and Shi - Phen walking hand in hand, sharing a plaid umbrella. They were, people just slightly younger than he,giving each other googly eyes of young lovers. When had this happened ?
He wanted to run away , but the happy couple spotted him. They were coming to say hello. Celeste drew closer, red curls piled high atop her head.Everett could feel his dick hardening, and postioned himself behind a trash can. An ivory blazer that gives a generous view of her breasts is the culprit.
Awful luck getting rained on, like that,'' Said Shi- phen.
''You could share our umbrella,'' Celeste motioned, voice edged with concern.
Would you like to get a Cafe Brulot with us?" the lovebirds chirped in unison.
''Today is no good for me,'' Everett stammered.
''Another time, then. Bye,'' Celeste said, walking away.
That was the voice he'd fallen in love with on the set of '' Mermaid Country.'' Although,it hardened around the edges from thousands of cigarettes and age.Everett work as a sound technician on set.He had crashed into walls willing himself not to stare at Celeste's sexy curves stuffed into that mermaid costume.
The other mermaids did nothing for him. They were either chatting constantly about incoherant bullshit or full of themselves. That was the hook that snared his heart.Celeste didn't have a clue how beautiful she was.
He had snuck Valentine's Day flowers in her dressing room, compete with a poem. But hadn't thought to put her name. The stupid cleaning lady had moved them and Karen thought they were for her and began hanging all over him. Everett had benn unable to find the words to straighten the chaos out.
The rest was history.Everett had been overcome with a passionate need for Celeste again,at a crazy New Year's Eve party.Karen and him had split up for the first time.He wasn't much of a drinker, just needed a brief respite from the empty house. He had sat at the bar, nursing a Pina Colada, drinking her beauty all night.
Joel was propped against against an overstuffed chair, spinning tall tales like only a drunk man can.Celeste hadn't lost the baby weight yet from having Sebastian. The sequined sweater dress she wore covered it up nicely. She was a notoriously hopeless dancer and worse at Karaoke.
It was refreshing to watch a lady so alive, like his late mosther had been. Most of the time,Everett felt like a robot, mechanically shoveling through life.
In the rain, watching her wave goodbye,Everett made the choice to let her go.She would always be another man's arm candy. If Everett was ever going to cultivate a healthy relationship with opposite sex, he had to stop comparing them to Celeste. His waitress at the oyster bar, with the chipped front tooth, flirted continually.Stacy or Lacy was her name.It was worth a shot.
