On the seventh day of Spring, it rained mercilessly.
I stayed home from school that morning so I could pack up and prepare for the transition;
The roof of a warm home to the roof of a 2000 Infinity QX4.
It was not new to be homeless, but this time we were alone
No family around us to harbor four penniless dreamers
Because my teenage life had made me cold, I pushed away all open arms aimed at me.
I had written books, been on TV, won scholarships and awards - I was on my way to a "somewhere".
My immediate "somewhere" however, being a rest stop, or perhaps a parking lot where my family and I would scrounge coins to wash our clothes and eat
In hopes of maintaining our façade to those of whom we had faced every day,
They who had not stood to witness the immodest yellowed paper taped to our thin front door that afternoon.
I was silent in my creaky room so I did not awake my mother; she had to work long hours that day
She was silent in her echoing room so as to not disturb my sleep; I had to work long hours that night
However, we both lay on our sides, wide awake, delaying all the inevitables with an unfallen tear
Waiting to dance its way down the softened skin of two strong women's faces.

Wow, this is excellent
Wow, this is excellent writing that exposes the trauma of poverty with murky depth and bright clarity. Looking forward to more

Having established an Infinity QX4 is an SUV
I realised this is about homelessness in the US. I liked the writing and description, but it left me wanting more flesh on the bones. I think a sequel could be worth trying.
Travelling around the US in a beat up SUV may seem romantic to some, but I think you are aiming to share the nuts and bolts of this reality.
You rated this as poetry. Is this intended as prose poetry?
Best Wishes
