Comments are very welcome. I am kind of new to writing and am working on a Novel. So I will be using this to adjust my writing style a little.
The boy woke to the screams of fear from the next room over. It was his mother and father. He had no idea the horrors happening right next to him. The blood being spilled by a man the family had never seen before. The poor boy would be next if the burglar was not to be spooked by the sounds of sirens making way down the road. As the boy laid silently underneath the comfort of his bed, he listened as the footsteps of the murderous man crept slowly down the hall towards the stairs leading to the living room and front door.
Young Alex was lucky his hearing was acute and could hear the slightest of movements. He heard the murderer shuffle through the darkness and made his way down the porch and lost the sounds as he got on the walkway. When Alex knew the coast was clear, he went to his sisters room to check on Alicia, his younger sister. He had not heard the slightest noise from her room. He feared she had been killed before he was awoken to the sounds of his parents. As he slipped into her room after using the secret knock they had made a few months back, he noticed the bed was empty and the closet was ajar. He heard her near silent breath falling short from her chest. She was in shock of course. She had just heard the sounds of her parents being brutally murdered just two rooms over. Alex tapped the same knock as he had with the bed room door, slowly opened it, and grabbed his sister in an embrace. As she wept Alex knew he needed to go check on his parents in the other room. Any moment he wasted, he would be wasting possible breaths of their lives. He sat Alicia on her bed and told her to sit put until she heard the secret knock again, and that was when she would open the door for him.
He locked the door behind himself and made way down the stairs to secure the home. He shut and locked the front door that had been carelessly left unlocked that night. He quickly checked the other doors and grabbed a phone on the way to his parents bedroom. While moving up the stairs the 12 year old called 911 and talked to the operator to try to get the police to his house. The operator did not want to believe the words of a mere child making what she almost knew to be a prank call at the time of night it was. Reluctantly she sent units to the home to investigate.
While waiting on the police, Alex went into his parents room. With more resolve than any 12 year old should have, he approached his bloodied dying parents to try his best to get as much info about the burglar as possible. His father was still breathing, but only slightly. Both arms had been gashed almost from wrist to shoulder. Alex was a boy scout and remembered learning the tourniquet. He took his fathers robe belt and tied it just above the cuff of his left shoulder. Luckily his fathers pants from the day's work still had a normal belt on them. He quickly snatched the belt from the jeans and tied the second tourniquet around his right shoulder.
His father was trying to speak through the pain and distress of his son having to see him like this and all he could say was ; "Son, you should not be in here. You should not see your mother and I like this." Alex looked at his father and with tears forming quicker than he could control, could only reply;" Daddy, Alicia and I love you, but the police are going to need a description. Can you describe the person who did this to you and mommy?" The father was shocked at his son's resilience and resolve to find justice in the situation. "He was my height, slightly broader shoulders. He had dark hair and a mask to cover his face. I know your mother is already dead but she fought. Tell the police to check her nails for DNA and her teeth for hair. I want you to make sure your sister knows we loved you two with all of our hearts. I hate to say it, but I wont be able to make it much longer. I know you two will make fine adults, and I hate that adulthood is going to come to you so much faster than it should. Raise your sister right Alex. Keep her close. I love y....." around the moment his father had taken his last breath, the police were banging on the door. Alex opened the door covered in the blood of his father, weeping now. He just had the trauma of watching his father die in front of his eyes.
