Aleks, once again, emerged from his unconscious state. He felt drowsy and was very unwilling to get up even if it was a Saturday. Once he coerced his eyes to stay open he was once again hit with confusion as to where he was. For some reason there wasn’t the same level of shock at the fact that he was in the hospital. It was as if subconsciously he already knew that he was supposed to be here.
There was a bedside locker with a digital clock on it. Seven fifteen. Strange, Aleks remembered turning off his lights at around midnight the night before and then falling asleep not too long afterward. But the way his body was groggy made him feel as though he had been asleep for much longer than seven hours. He pressed a button on top of the clock to reveal the date. It was the ninth. It took a few seconds of math in his head but Aleks realised quick enough that that would make today a Tuesday and not a Saturday.
He must have been out for a long time. He looked around to see if there was a button to call a nurse, it would probably be best if they knew he was awake. But there was no button so he called out.
“HELLO!?” he croaked. It wasn’t the loudest call but he assumed it was enough. It was only as his voice echoed from the open door to the hallway, that Aleks realised how quiet this hospital seemed. Once his lingering voice faded all that was left was the beep of the heart monitor.
He figured he needed to go find someone. Plus it might be a good idea to move his body if he had been unconscious for he guessed was at least three days. He swung his legs off the side of the bed but was immediately met with a sharp pain in his thigh. He gritted his teeth so as not to cry out. He pulled back the remaining corners of the blankets to get a good look at what was causing the pain. Three small puncture wounds that didn’t seem to have a specific grouping to them. It was obviously the source of pain but what were they and how did they get there?
From his sitting position he saw that there was more things on the bedside locker. Water, pills and an envelope. First things first was to deal with the pain and he could only assume that these pills were for this. What kind of doctor would leave anything else unattended with a patient. He took two of the pills with ease, enjoying the water as it rehydrated his mouth and throat. He didn’t wish to move until he was sure the pills were kicking in, so he opened the envelope. There was a letter.
“Hello Alex,
I would like to start off by suggesting you take the pills before you read this message. Assuming you have, there is much you are about to learn. Many years ago, there were a beasts known as Epirions. They were a half breed creature between human and a variety of earth’s most ferocious animals. Think of them as similar to werewolves as they were the inspiration for the myth.
It was believed that they were extinct as there was no sign of them for thousands of years. But as it turns out, they actually just went into hiding. They remained in their human type form and eventually found themselves living by their side, to their ignorance. Now the original breed of Epirions have gone extinct but a part of their genus has remained through cross breeding with humans. These cross breeds are known as Epits.
The way in which the Epirions changed into their beast form was through releasing a chemical into their heart. It Increases the rate of pumping and causes increased blood flow which in turn lets their muscles grow and expand on exponential levels. But due to the dilution of the gene pool an Epit can no longer willingly release the chemical. But it can be released through an exertion of the heart.
Only recently there has been a large breakthrough in medical science that has allowed us to discover if a person is an Epit. And after checking samples of your blood we have discover that you are an Epit. Right now you are in a special facility that will be used to run several tests on you and your kind so we can learn more about the species.
Understandably everything in this letter is probably a lot to take in. Please keep a hold of it so you may understand what you are. When you are ready please make your way down the hallway and into the elevator and go to the fourth floor. We will be waiting for you until then. And remember the most important thing for you to do is to remain calm.
Aleks placed the page down. He had read all the words and they made sense but he just couldn’t seem to comprehend what he had just read. He tried to read it again but quickly lost his concentration. His head was swimming and his body started feeling lighter. The pills were kicking in. He shifted his legs forward an inch. The pain was completely dulled so he stood up.
His legs wobbled a bit. He hadn’t used them in a long time. He scoped around the room to see if there was anything else he could find that would help him. But no. He was alone, in some sort of strange hospital. He guess that there was only one place he could go to get some answers. The fourth floor.
