Bank Of Argentina
-----------------------
In the 70,s and 80,s I worked in banking and I represented the bank at
football. We played all over Britain against various banks.Liverpool,
Leeds, Bolton, and London. We had some hard games against players who
looked up to the likes of Norman Hunter and Ron Harris as model
footballers and who tackled just as hard. One particular game sticks out
for pain.We were due to play a friendly against the Royal Navy at HMS.
Gannet in Prestwick. It was in 1982 at the height of the Falklands
War.We all arrived early and got stripped for action.About ten minutes
before we ran out for the kick off one o our lads announced that we
were going to be dead men.Our football strip was the Argentina
one.Jesus we thought. They,ll kill us.We had no choice and no reserve
strip. When we ran out the Navy guys couldn,t believe it.They thought it
was a wind-up.From kick off till full-time they kicked the shit out of
us.They won 5-2.We were scared to score.I,ll never forget that
game.
