Heavy Metal
---------------
The support band are long gone
Who were they anyway?
The great unwashed denim clad crowd
Await with eager anticipation on
Their heroes those
Heavy Metal monsters
High in the charts, high on blow
And getting higher backstage;
The acne riddled sweating maniacs
Slow handclap
And sing
And chant
Blowing smoke rings of dubious ciggies
An atmosphere
Of crackling, buzzing, live electrcity then...
A roar from the watchers bursts the bubble of tension
And four figures emerge from the dark wings
Like gods on Olympus
The crowd rise in adrenalin pumped excitement
Peering through the cascading dry ice
As it pours over the stage
And million watt spots light up the sky
The guitars buzz into action, like electric saws
Ripping clawlike at eardrums
In time with the thumping thudding snapping snares
Which assault the senses
The fans are in orgiastic frenzy
The strutting posing pretty boy singer
Screams out macho lyrics
Leather clad legs apart
Sweat pouring from every gland
Mixed with Coke and Jack Daniels
The crowd ways back and forth
In time to the driving hellish bass
The chopping axe
The snapping, snarling, rattling cowbells
Song after song
"Riot City"
Gimme Your Flesh"
"Genocide"
Time has halted for these drymouthed fans
In this flashing, thunderous netherworld
Of heavy metal music
But outside time passes
And encore follows encore
Until those metal gods
Tire of their playthings
And vanish
Into a waiting chariot
Laden with drinks
And drugs
And women of the night
Who help them to come
Down...
Slowly
And they leave the masses spent and exhausted
Deafened, and sated
Waiting for bext years, tour;
