Life in my shoes -pt8

At age 9 I experienced my first taste of criminal life. Wes had been in trouble with the police many times from what I could tell, yet this didn't seem to faze him. One night he took me out with him. It began with braking into the old style taxi cabs and stealing the bags of change that they kept inside the doors, I was his look out I guess, I knew it was wrong but I would do anything he asked of me, and he seemed to know it.
Wes' parents knew what he was doing but didn't seem to care, he was the golden boy and anything he did wrong was over looked, on several occasions I even witnessed him giving stolen goods to his mum! The only thing she seemed bothered about was him not getting caught!
However the inevitable happened and he was sent to live in a children's home as he was thought to be out of control. When I found out I was gutted, who did I have now? My family was useless and I had no friends.

My mum was now pregnant again and had made friends with a local woman who was also expecting. She regularly came round to our house to have a coffee and chat which I enjoyed as she was nice to me. One weekend afternoon I over heard them talking about their sex lives in the kitchen and began giggling. They asked me why I was laughing and what did I know about those things? I answered innocently that Wes and I did those things too. My mother looked angry and I instantly knew that I shouldn't have said anything. My mother's friend said that she had to phone the police but she didn't seem too keen on the idea, after all it was her friends son.

I can't remember how long passed but I was eventually taken,with my mum,by the police, to a doctors surgery where I was examined 'down there'. I felt so embarrassed and scared and the instruments the doctor used hurt me.
After going home upset, I have no recollection of what happened regarding the police. Several weeks later, I was sent to live with my father and his girl friend in Leicester, many miles away from my home town of Telford.
