Sandman

“Sandman, Sandman, take back the days!”
Take back the seconds, reverse the sun’s rays
Bring me a year of before this time
Let me live and live with this body of mine
The sands of time slip through my hands,
Older and older I grow with no time to plan
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter - gone
A new year born to die: isn't that wrong?
Give me forever, or give me forever of this day
Allow me eternity to sing, dance, and pray
The sun races across the sky and brings up the night
If I thought I could win forever life, I would fight.
I would wrestle you down, Sandman, take your power away
So I could be a young person, each and every day
But you have no face, Sandman, no face to hurt
Nor do you have hands, but still you work
I can see you, powerful man, up in the sky
You are the sun and the moon that taunt me as you pass by
I won’t have time to learn the earth’s ways
I won’t have time to see the sights that I crave
There are mountains, seas, and coastlines to visit
A shame not to see all animals, and people of earth, isn't it?
“So Sandman, please,” I call as you fly,
Up so, so unaccountably high in the sky,
“Come down to earth, give me eternity,”
To learn, to see, to pray, to be,
A better person, give me the time
To help those whose mistakes were mine
I can handle forever, I assure you I can
“All I want is to be like you, Sandman.”
