The Crypt Spirit

The Crypt Spirit is a supernatural creature; some liken it to the dog that is buried in a new graveyard in order to guard the dead, but it is different.
For example, it protects crypts, not graves in the ground. It is more commonly found in New Orleans than England, and it does not have one static form; indeed, it is a shape-shifter. The Spirit can morph into whatever form it desires, or adopt the shape of a beast or thing that the body-snatcher is most terrified of.
A common materialisation is that of a dragon kneeling in the brickwork, followed by that of the Devil laughing with his horned head thrown back and arm outstretched as if he is pointing and laughing at you. There are many other guises that the spirit can take, however, and some say the possibilities are endless.
It is easy to recognise a Crypt Spirit, for their skin, or rather their shadow, is a very red hue, and they are indeed very like said shadow, for they sit beside a crypt and look like one, albeit for their colour, if you ever spot one.
They also have a preference; although a cemetery might be still be used and there might be many shadows, they favour the oldest and most crumbling tombs. It is speculated that might feel bones for the person whose dry bones are interred in a weathered and vandalised house, but nobodies knows for sure.
But what is known is that one day, if you are ever buried in a crypt, you may eventually come to befriend this guardian of the dead, to whom they are harmless.
It is the robber and desecrator that must fear the Crypt Spirit.
