Deserted

Shifting desert sands
slip the memory,
you were once beside
me, not far from mind,
but far in terms of time.
Strange how these dunes
remind me of your body
and the shape of your face,
grace in the feminine
curves, masculine heat.
And it's true your eyes
were as blue as
the sky, sparkling like
stars that come out
to play at night.
Your hair blends into
the sand, your silence
desolate as these quiet
surrounds, as though
the punishment continues.
You were my oasis,
a princess gifted me,
but time soured the nectar,
obscured vision like haze
on a dusky horizon.
Happiness is a mirage,
maybe no such thing
exists, only a sense that
true love does, searching
deserted expanses of earth
For The One,
or even
someone.
