Bar truths (30th April 2008, 9.07am)
What do you seek
As you stumble around
On a drunken night out
Filled with light and sound
I was caught by the eyes
As I walked through the bar
Snagging like brambles
On my push up bra
I know I know
How to work the room
With my hips and my smile
And the lie that I’m beautiful
All an illusion
Designed to confuse
This is how I keep myself amused
But you’re right
I won’t find what I’m looking for
Under the hot coloured lights
On the heaving dancefloor
I won’t find what I want
Leaning against the bar
Ordering a drink
One drink too far
But how do you know
That I won’t be fulfilled
There was a time
When all I sought were these thrills
And the city lights called
And the alcohol lifted
And the high heels clattered
As through smoke and sweat
I drifted.
