Rejection Letter

He ran down the stairs as he heard the letterbox open and close. He
took the final two steps in one go.
"James, careful." He shoved past his flatmate, Ewan, in the hall and
pounced onto the pile of letters on the mat. There were two letters for
him, one from the university and the other one. The one he had been
waiting for. He discarded the first and ripped open the second. He
pulled the letter out and unfolded it. His heart was pounding loudly
and he closed his eyes before reading.
"Dear James. We regret to inform you that your application to MI6 has
been rejected. The intake this year is of the highest standard for many
years and you should be proud to have reached such an advanced stage.
Unfortunately, we don't believe that you particular skills are suited
to a position with MI6. Good luck with the rest of your studies and
finding an appropriate job. Kind regards, M."
He put the letter back into the envelope.
"Bugger."
