After Days - Prologue

"The year is 2026. That is if you believe the rumours. In honesty since this war began no one seems sure of anything. The time, the day, the month, they aren't important anymore. Ueda tells me that years ago, way before this hell, people used to eat at least three times a day, and then sleep during the night. Now that's changed and we eat when we can and sleep when we dare.
There aren't many of us left here anymore. About twenty-eight of us I think, but that was before the last attack. Funny thing is that there were millions of us once. Supposedly this was some great city, London I think it was called, but there's no use for names like that when you have nothing to relate it to. The limits of this city are the limits of my world, and even if there is somewhere else out there, I doubt I will ever see it.
This is all I really know. How can I miss the past if I was never there? I have breathed this war almost all of my life, all aside from a couple of years. I think I was 3 when it started, in fact, I know I was. Of all the days the world had to flip upside down, it was the day that I was supposed to start nursing, or nursery, something like that anyway. My mum knew more about what was going on than I did. She had been acting differently all day, like she could see it coming somehow. I only knew something was up when my mum fell down. I guess even at 3 years old you know that someone with a hole in them can't stand back up.
For a while after that, I was pretty much on my own, just wondering until someone would find me and take me in. Although, pretty soon they would end up falling down too. For a while I actually thought it was me, that I was the one making all these people bleed out. It wasn't until the almighty 'Global United Nations' rose up to stop the killing, that I realised I was innocent. Even then the only reason I knew that was because they weren't coming after me.
I still play it back in my head sometimes, and even with my 19-year-old spin on things, I can't help but feel that it is my fault that everything fell apart. At least I think I'm 19. I may not know the time, or the year, or even if the sun is still out there behind the clouds, but I know the facts. The G.U.N. are gone. Ueda and the others need me to be strong to protect them. But the enemy, the enemy is Celestia. And no matter the cost, everyone who lives under their banner must be killed."
