Sanctuary

Relax in me. Sit or kneel, and pray.
You are in the presence of God,
and are welcome to stay all day.
I am His church. He shines His ray
of hope on me; on my pews, my wood, my sod.
Relax on me. Sit or kneel, and pray.
I am a sanctuary. No nearby affray
targets me. I am comforting, like a kind and odd
old man. You are welcome to stay all day.
There was a day my neighbourhood fell prey
to terror. A bomb left damage to all, but my God
saved me, so people can relax. Sit or kneel, and pray.
The bomb blast left the whole sky grey.
Terrified people fled the flaming rods
of debris. But, I was safe. They were welcome to stay all day.
My Lord saw fit to make his people pay
for sins they dared to commit. It was his nod
to warn them. But He saved His sanctuary. Relax in me. Sit or kneel, and pray.
You are welcome to stay all day.
