He opens his eyes. He's in a room surrounded by glass walls. The medieval tower has disappeared. Instead, this new scenario is very modern
and 'clean'.
The white floor is spotless. The blue ceiling is shining. The glass walls are perfectly designed to look thin and frail despite the thick layers of stainless steel covering the columns that support them. In the middle of the room, a long black marble table surrounded by sixteen black iron chairs, was the only furniture to be seen. Basil walks towards it and and slips his right hand over the smooth lustrous top. It's icy cold. He moves towards the windows. Outside he sees a beautiful and strange landscape. A desert. Dark yellow sands, vast extensions of dunes, randomly changing form, when the desert wind blows in furious gusts, spreading sand and stones, making the windows tremble.
While he was observing the movements of the changing dunes, a door opens.Startled he turns around.
A tall bald man dressed in dark robes, comes forward. He smiles at Basil and nods.
'So you've come at last! We were waiting for you!'
He sits in one of the chairs and bids Basil to seat at his side. Basil sits down at his left. The man nods seriously and takes some papers from under his robe. It looks like a kind of contract. Basil feels uneasy. He doesn't like this man.He doesn't know how to get away from there. Where is the exit ?
...Good! The door is still there. He moves uneasy on his chair. The man puts the papers on the table and looks sternly at Basil.
'Well, ...Are you ready to sign?'
He takes out a golden pen from an inside pocket and hands it to Basil.
'Questions?'.
Basil looks straight in his eyes
'Who are you?'
The man looks at him, surprised.
'Does it matter? Everything is ready now. We need your signature, as you know. It's of vital importance!'
Basil, with a quick movement stands up and runs to the exit.
