A Place to Stay (Epilogue)

The car arrived in the city that night, and the Feldams were lucky enough to find an available apartment only a few blocks away from the Kreters in the heart of the city.  After bidding the Feldams a good night, Jill returned to her long awaited family with open arms.  Despite her worries, her parents were in decent health for their age, her brother was making fantastic income as an attorney for criminal cases raised by the Union of Stability, and regular pay during her service had provided her family with more than enough money.  The next day, Jill turned in her uniform and arms, officially resigning from the Union.

Diana found a job as a diner waitress a few days later.  Whenever she worked, Jill took care of the young Feldams, learning a thing or two about babysitting.  Though she initially feared that having so much distance from her children would weaken the family bond, Diana returned from every workday to find her children happy to see her.

Due to her self-imposed caretaking responsibilities, Jill was unable to find the time for a solid work schedule.  Nevertheless, her family urged her to take a rest anyway and enjoy her “temporary retirement.”  With her background as a truck driver for the Union, Jill eventually landed a job as an auto mechanic with a loose work schedule.

A few months before the war ended, Mr. Feldam surrendered to the Union and was soon released.  His family was notified, and they returned to their house in the village.  He and Jill had no trouble acquainting themselves despite their conflicting backgrounds, and from then on, she would visit the Feldams once a month.

And, of course, Jill and the Feldams had tea from time to time.
