Doomed Love Poem

Love is like a jungle
a dangerous place to be
and we’re two horny finches
flirtin’ in a damson tree
There’s an orange cat below us
scratchin’ at the trunk
above us somethin’ prickly
smellin’ like a skunk
They’ll put us in a cage
perhaps we’d better run
hide out in the undergrowth
(it won’t be too much fun)
Sugar, did I tell ya’
I love you the most ?
Even though this crazy world
is cheese on toast
Our time is nearly over
the fires are spreadin’ fast
stay here in my arms until
the drone swarms have passed
They’re choppin’ down the forest
scortchin’ out the night
I’d fly you to the moon but they
clipped my wings real tight
So farewell beautiful bird
in death we’ll never part
my love was like a jungle
inflamed by your heart
