POEM: Two Heaped Spoons of Sugar

He is telling her he is leaving,
As he makes a cup of tea,
The frothing surface bubbles,
as two spoons of sugar whisk around,
Two heaped spoons that he stirred in,
When she had needed none.
She watches as his shirt back pulls,
Going from tight, then to slack,
Rippling dance that orchestrates,
the tension of muscles flexed, as he
spooned the two heaped sugars in,
When she had wanted none.
His face cramped in concentration,
Transporting cups to table,
Sitting with fingers steepled,
in a battlement for his defense,
Two heaped spoons of sugar dealt,
Sickening turmoil felt..
He's waiting for the storm to cut,
Through the silence with a knife,
His arms shield his cage of life,
from the blows of salty tears that splash,
With two heaped spoons of sugar,
Into the sickly mix.
He has told her he is leaving,
And that she must drink her tea,
As if he thinks the bitter pill,
will be washed away with the sweetness,
Of unwanted spoons of sugars in,
salty, milk skinned tea.
When she wanted none.
