Here we go in 2024…
Tried to scribble one down got a little confused read’n around, read it out loud just to hear the sound…
A bit a fear
Got a man-up in ABC world here… ‘cringe’
Call it rant.
I can but I can’t.
Like a free dive holding my breath in the depths.
Surrounded by shadows of the masters of poems, psalms and rhymes, down deep, the literary decompress.
Could be commit’n a poetic crime, but then again, I could be just a lost lyricist, just miss’n the point of this poetry seriousness…
That’s ok, I gotta love for it*
‘sigh’ – 3,2,1- Go4-It !
Give me more in 24.
It ain’t enough…
Search’n my soul, where I do go, maybe, someday, what the hell, deep breath, with a stretch, shoulders back.
Yes I can*
I signed up for a Poetry Slam…
Nervous, sweats, shivers, I’m wound up tight, they called my name, stood on stage, grabbed the mic, and let it rip in shades of fright.
Did it with that doo-wop-rattle & roll & rhythm.
Kinda like a soul church hymn with a bit of sin’n.
I don’t even know if they understood it, or they realize what hit em’…
A moment of silence, an uncomfortable pause, a few whistles echoed, gotta a couple hands in the back stands.
Think’n that was great, turned out to be my boozed-up mates.
So, I bought em’ another round to pound.
But it was the young social media star, hip-hop up & comer, say’n to me, “Yo Watt’s Up Bro! U-B Writ’n Me Anotha? Come On Holmz, Throw 1 Down 4 Me & Da Botha’s”!
Gotta Luv-It*
Give me more in 24…
I learned something from that stage fright, slam’n one down with the masters of poetry crowns.
Lived through allot of fear, kinda like an adrenaline junkie, always learn’n more with words around here.
What’s enough, where’s the right stuff, where’s my poetry soul, rhythm, reach’n deep, what do I reap?
Now I’m etch’n one down for what I do, my passion, in public service, in a reaction.
Feel’n the vibe of some literary traction.
Live’n on the edge, time to tell another tale, life is short and frail, I thought it over and ‘ya’ I might fail…
Spring in the season, weather get’n warmer, time to tune up, train up, gear up, for all the right reasons.
Game on*, in my line of work its gonna be another Rock & Roll season…
Look’n back at last year with a little reflection, powering up this year for a resurrection, stay’n defined, keep’n it refined, gotta be careful I don’t cross the line.
I put a grin on it, at least I’m try’n hard, ain’t no sin in it…
It’s that time of year, adrenaline-up, like that poetry slam fear, back at work churning the political gears.
Cut’n & strut’n in out of bureaucratic and policy meetings, juice’n up the budget, got some connections that know how to fudge it, kiss’n some political ass, do’n the cool is the rule diplomatic pass, not take’n sides, stay’n under the radar, close enough - yet safe afar, be’n stealth, seen but unnoticed, play’n the scene.
Sit’n in back in one of those long boring government network gatherings…
I can barely see.
No one notices me.
Privacy and free.
All good until one of those big wig policy directors said …
‘Ahh, Kris standup and give us a snapshot from the frontline action’!
F*ck! §/@#x%...
Head drop on table reaction…
Search’n for some policy polite words and hymns, look’n for those politically correct synonyms.
As they handed me the mic, I could hear a few of them bureaucrat suits sneers, smirks and grins.
‘Ahh shit, here we go, its him again’…
Flash back to that Poetry Slam adrenaline air, sly in the eye man-up stare, sending a vibe with that calm cool glare, ain’t no grace and ain’t no prayer…
I’m think’n should I?
Would I?
Yes I can…
And then I heard ‘Go For It’! from one of those slam fans.
I had to stand, look’n at the nay sayers mumble’n & murmurs.
Uh-oh, now they know this is gonna be a bit of a squirmer…
Took a breath, looked around, cleared my throat and let it abound…
Break’n the thaw, get’n raw….
‘Last year we had a rescue every day, we work hard for our pay’.
It ain’t enough.
I’m not ask’n.
I want more in 24…
Ya, I crashed the new boat, got it fixed, it floats, back in service and crewed-up today. By the way, we rescued everyone - no one died that day…
Yep, uh-ha;
Show my crew some appreciation for the situation, risk-reward, love and money, it ain’t funny…
You forgot who you’re dealing with, it’s no myth, we’re a small team, tuned-up ready to rock around the clock 24/7 in the game every day.
A passion for public service the 1st responder way…
I gotta crazy Helicopter pilot with thousands of military and rescue flight hours, she’s cool, she just wants a little respect from people like you, that stare on her face doesn’t mean she’s sour.
She lives in moment, minute by minute, hour by hour.
She walks with a limp, give her a smile, don’t call her a gimp…
Check, check, double check, she slept at the hanger last night on call on deck.
It ain’t enough.
I want more in 24…
Results?
You dont know what to say? I didn’t ask to come here, read my resume.
I’m not here for diplomatic pleasantries, read the Stats, we be #1 and those are the facts Jack.
Sometimes I need a little help for me and crew, it’s not a yelp, it’s what teams do, ya, that’s right I’m look’n at you, don’t stray away, we saved your drug overdosed brother.
It was me that drove home late night from the hospital with your mother…
That’s right*
That young man some of your brewed up mates mocked at the service bar. Downs Syndrome, passed his first Lifeguard swim class, that’s that the first job he ever had…
I expect better.
It’s not about a class system or status symbol from one to another, it’s all about the love for each other and help’n you’re fellow brother.
It ain’t enough.
I want more in 24…
Some of my Rescue Cowboys got into a bit a trouble let’n off some steam, if you know what I mean, at the end of the season party they just needed a ride home, they weren’t on the roam.
They don’t need rehab, call em’ a cab…
The team has a few PTSD and burn out issues, I ain’t cry’n, ain’t ask’n for tissues. Give me a public service phycologist, for all of us, you got the government paid 5-star wellness and recoup retreat, we gotta stand up and go back on the beat…
It ain’t enough.
I want more in 24…
Ya, I heard there was of a bit skirmish at the gym, a bit of a tussle and someone took it on the chin. My power rescue girls will never be Barbies, but when they’re bench press’n sets of 10 over a hundred again & again, and swim’n open water 200’s in under eights…
A dog whistle & a poke on the butt, F’n rights, their gonna pop off and set you Damn straight*. Bad ass with class. Word-up* if you’re think’n you’re smooth on a sly pass, trust me, no one will rescue you when those women kick your ass.
This year’s numbers will be up, tourist over 3 million, the tax revenues are gonna overflow the cup and you all be lining your pockets and grin’n, good for all of us, we all be win’n.
But don’t forget, me & the crew are solid for insurance, those companies want us for reassurance, it’s not funny money, bank that while you’re on holiday with your honey.
It’s not a game, it’s not the same, when shit goes down, we know how to the take blame, move the heat off all of you, no press, no social media mess, it’s what we do. Look around in these politics, who is truly loyal to you?
For me, I got a loyal crew, give my squad a nod and we’ll rescue of you too.
Thanks for the hundreds of pages from the risk management consultant. I never saw any of them out here, no interviews, no questions, no Cc’s, not even a request for meeting.
Looking at their data is kinda defeating.
But I noticed the invoice paid to the same, company consultants with your family name.
I don’t wana hear about migrants and refugee policies, time and resources, them, there, what and those souls you can’t see.
It’s all a rescue for the crew and me…
EU rules & regs, the dread I got a stack of paperwork I still haven’t read, just give me a legal opinion of what I can and can’t do, there’s enough lawyers in here with a clue (?)
And what washes ashore, we always clean up by morning so it’s no more, you won’t see it, just rumours in paradise - tourist won’t believe it.
Every life is precious, not to be rated in political incest.
Where’s the love here?
This season is gonna be tough.
It ain’t enough.
I want more in 24…
Seasoned, experienced, man on a mission, you get what you pay for, grew up in the cold war, got my bars on a uniform from another score, not look’n for an encore, we’re work’n hardcore…
I’m tell’n ya, we deserve more.
Its not a polite memo, request, send an email, time date and meeting like all rest.
It’s not a dare.
Don’t give me that stupid stare.
I’m tell ya, divvy up and be fair.
Ya* we got a non-profit, SwimFit, for seniors, disabled, newbies, a public service with sponsors for everybody and no one is segregated.
Don’t ever, never, send me another F’n letter tell’n us we need to be regulated.
It’s like some of you have no clue, just stay home and sniff your own glue…
We got a climate change situation with extremes in weather, for us we keep trained up, prepared, better and better. What’s the Plan B for the bureaucrats here with that blank stare, we got hotel owners, investors, infrastructure, property values, jobs with tourist attractions.
Or did that just slip your minds in the plan of action?
Call those consultants again. ‘wink & grin’
It ain’t enough, its gonna get rough, I don’t mean to be brash, I want to see some leadership from all of you with soul, passion, and class.
I want more in 24…
I need some new rescue back boards and stretchers, paramedic bags, O2 bottles, water poof radios, boat floats, high grade binoculars, and uniforms that function in bad weather.
Clear that in the budget and don’t source from a place with slave labour.
Events, concerts, sporting venues, live media, and yacht races in all the right revenue generating places.
Do it right with smiles on your faces.
Over time for rescue crews is not a crime.
We’re blessed here, its like mana from heaven, don’t screw it up, or it will be a brutal lesson on your re-election.
We need to be glide’n on the same vibe, in sync on the same stride, making people happy and enjoy’n the ride.
Keep’n it real, no one needs to live in fear, give me some good news for the crew to cheer!
I want more in 24…
As I stand here looking over all of you in good graces, don’t forget, we’ll be internationally rated, we don’t need a red card and media downgraded.
Whats the fuss?
Ya we did a dawn run, hand-up, that was us, we went out of bounds again, delivered a primi on an overnight ferry, it was touch & go and even a maybe. The couples last try on IVF fear, but when it was over, it was a ship full of happy tears.
There’s no heroes here, we’re pros, a proud product of a nation, a risk take’n search & rescue creation. I want some fair risk compensation, it’s not an equation, and it’s not a maybe baby situation.
It’s not about who’s, who, status, pedigree, better addresses or where you’ve been sipping wine in how many places.
We’re in the public service business, it’s team support and embraces.
It’s like a soul safari for quality, a quest for equality, we’re all part of the same colony.
People come here to getaway, escape, and play and they pay for that holiday.
Its starts with you, it’s a reflection of my crew too.
And you never know, we may be the ones that rescue you.
I want more in 24…
It’s all about all of us, be true, stand up, be proud, roll up your sleeves, team up and give it a go.
Cut the petty crap and political blows.
Don’t be divided, be united.
Taking a stubborn stand, or lending a helping hand?
Make someone’s day, spread some love the mother Theresa way…
………
I did a poetry slam, what I learned is ‘yes I can’
I gotta High-5 and hug from a Rapper…
It not about the perfect words, proper poetry and if I qualify, in fact I don’t need an alibi.
It’s the message I send, when, where and then…
Looking for inspiration from above.
Nope… its all about the love, the passion of what we do, the words that we write, the team, back-up and inspiration from the crew.
That’s what ABC Tales can do for you.
That’s more in 24…
Mic drop…
Kris out…

I bet this would be so
I bet this would be so brilliant if you could do a soundcloud recording and upload the link at the end of your writing. It's really easy - even I managed to do it! Do have a go Kris - it's begging to be read aloud

Reading out loud is a big
Reading out loud is a big deal so well done for navigating the adrenaline-fuelled terror and euphoria that goes with events like that. Yeah...I'd love to listen if you do a recording. I haven't put anything onto SoundCloud for a while but it is a lot of fun making audio. Good luck with it.

Second time round reading, I
Second time round reading, I slowed down, and got used to your 'voice' and got to grip with the rap. Very interesting about standing up for your crew, and the honour they (and you) are due. And your determination to get into 'poetic' communication. Is your work based in Europe?
Actually, I'd probably miss a lot if just listening, and my ear might take a breather before your voice needed a rest! You have great stamina in writing and reading as in you rescue work! Rhiannon

Wow, that was like riding
Wow, that was like riding some rhyming river rapids, twists and turns, dunked then re-surfaced but fast flowing, dangerous in places. I agree with others, this should be performed because the little man who performs it inside my head doesn't do it justice. Wisdom and humour all strung together with a rhythm.

Guiding light
This made me smile. I regret not having read it when you posted it back in ages ago.
I've been invited to read some of my stuff at a poetry night in February. I've been to one of these sessions before but didn't participate as I was just out on a rekkie. It's not far from where I live so more than half of the people there will only speak Bulgarian so they won't have a clue what I'm on about, which will reduce the scale of my first night nervousness a bit.
I'll read your More n'24 <freestyle> a couple more times before then for guidance, It has become my performer's Bible.

Bulgarski
Hello Kris.
I’m delighted that you used my Iran stuff in this way. The more people my writing reaches, the merrier, is how I look at it. It's especially good if it has been of some educational value. Do you still have any of the kids’ pictures? I’d love to see them.
As far as the poetry reading session is concerned, the boot is on the other foot from what you might imagine. I see myself as the guest in the host country. It’s a Bulgarian event and since I arrived here in 2016 I’ve been having lessons and talking to as many Bulgarian people as possible in their language. It embarrasses me that although I get by, I’m still a long way from being fluent. And it saddens me that so many languages and regional accents are disappearing to be replaced by television English, which is often American and a bit detached from real English. Bulgarians are intensely proud of their language and their Cyrillic alphabet which is often erroneously referred to as the Russian alphabet, so English is catching on only very slowly here.
So at my first open mic job I’m going to read poems that I’ve written in English and then explain my problem in Bulgarian before reading Bulgarian translations of them. The plan is then to write a poem in Bulgarian for the second reading (or more likely the third or fourth). It’s an exercise to not just improve my writing or my confidence in public speaking but also my knowledge of the language of the country I live in.
Spoken Bulgarian sounds beautiful. It flows like an amalgamation of music and water. And classic Bulgarian poetry is beautiful too. I’ve only ever read English translations but I’m told it’s even better in the original tongue, so I’d like to be able to appreciate it in that way one day.
Thanks very much for your reply and your words of encouragement.
Good on you!
