Why is Guy Fawkes still on the bonfire?
It is 400 years too late!
Surely we have found new terrorists to pile on our bonfires by now?

My current favourite candidates are the scoundrels of Islamic State, who have even managed to supercede their wily predecessors Al Qaeda, in viciousness and hatred of everything that is normal or good in the world. Perhaps Boko Haram should be there for abducting the schoolgirls and forcing them to kill like themselves, or Al Shabab for massacreing shoppers and students.

So pile up the pyres and let us cleanse the world of the greatest evils it currently faces. If only we could catch them all, but instead the world looks on unwilling to sacrifice any more of our own in the struggle that seems never ending.

(This was written before the new outrages of Islamic State and extremist Islam in Paris on the 13th of November 2015. Maybe now, just maybe, something will be done about it and the nations will find a way to work together in the common cause of civilization.)
