The Death of Love

'I love you' I cried,
As your hand slipped from my own.
'I'm sorry,' you sighed,
'I just want to be alone'.
It wasn't your fault,
Nor was it mine.
But your tears of salt
told me I was running out of time.
I left you be,
In your world of the dark.
I ignored what you told me to see,
And listened to the night-time lark.
But you didn't come out,
And the more time that passed
The more I came to doubt,
And the more those doubts amassed.
I knocked once and twice,
My hands so cold
On your wall of ice,
Your heart was no longer mine to hold.
Then the door fell back,
And out the darkness seeped,
Opened just a crack
Yet my heart leaped.
But then I saw
You, still upon the ground,
And my breath came no more
As I realised what I had found.
On your cheeks a blueish hue,
Told me what I most feared,
I cried: 'I love you!'
As you finally disappeared.
