Her eyes were piercing
Unlike so many conventional hues of
Blue and Green and Hazel
They were brown
The plainest color of brown
Absent of flecks that catch glittering lights
No swirls so much like espresso and foam
Her eyes were piercing
It was the way she looked at you
Moth-wing eyelashes
Lopsided tug of petal pink lips
She made people stare
She made people shy
Afraid of what she might do
If they were to meet her deadly gaze
She didn't have much
And maybe the rest of her
Wasn't very pretty but
Her eyes were piercing still
They made people believe
She wasn't ordinary, that much they knew
But if she needed them to think she was
Nothing special
She could do that too
