Play A Different Tune

I had to hope that
one day soon,
you would find me and
play me that tune.
Once in a while it would be
nice for you to say,
"I love you honey,
and have a good day."
But, sadly, that ended long ago,
when you gave me that ring,
and I said yes and we thought
about the joy it would bring.
"Everything is going to be perfect,"
you whispered to me,
under the covers in the bed,
"just wait and see."
I was happy
for a while,
but now I find that it's
just too much trouble to smile.
We've fallen apart,
you and I,
and I fear that it may be time
for me to say goodbye.
No, please don't try to stop me,
I won't listen to you,
for you've had enough time to stop me
from being blue.
I'm sorry to say,
dear sweet Toby,
that we just aren't
meant to be.
I'm sorry you have to hear this,
that I have to say this to you,
but I feel we can't turn this around,
or give it a new hue.
It's time we said goodbye,
and went our separate ways,
we're no good for each other;
we haven't spoken for three days!
And so I pack my bags
and kiss you one
last time and then
we are truly done.
I turn my back on you,
dearest lover,
and leave my diamond ring somewhere
for you to later discover.
Goodbye, sweetheart, I'll pray for you,
and maybe one day soon
you'll learn a thing or two about love,
and learn to play a different tune.
