Stone Heart On A Train To Somewhere

He told me
that he’d been places- done some things.
He told me
I’m an angel. I should have wings.
And he told me
he’d saved redwoods up Frisco way.
And he told me
that he shunned high office anyway.
Now I’m a
stone heart on a train to somewhere
else than there.
For change I’d go anywhere.
I’m a stone heart on a train to somewhere.
I believed every word
but he was just a turd.
And he told me
‘bout all the places he’d been to.
And he told me
he taught Jackie Chan a thing or two.
And he told meeee
force of money was what he lacked.
And he told me
studio gigs was what held him back.
Then he
high-tailed ass out of town.
Because there
was some karma goin’ down.
And I heard
through his former contacts.
How he
hadn’t honored contracts.
Then they called me
to the police station.
They wanted
specific information.
Then they told meee
be careful who I’m with.
They told me
he’s evil- to the pith.
Now I’m a stone heart on a train to somewhere.
I needed to git.
Disappear for a bit.
Stone heart on a train to somewhere.
Not quite on the lam.
I know just what I am.
Then I found one
who said, like me, she’d been wrong done.
And she said
she’d watch my things
while I made a bathroom run.
I was a
stone heart on a train to somewhere.
And he hopes, I bet,
our paths won’t intersect.
Stone heart on a train to somewhere.
To avoid friction
had to leave the jurisdiction.
Stone heart on a train to somewhere.
A place with an attitude.
A place they call ‘Gratitude’.
Stone heart on a train to somewhere.
Lost my illusions,
gained some cardiac contusions.
Then she told me
that guy sold her a bill of goods.
And she told me
how he ran off with some hoods.
And she told me
he said he was a mentalist.
And she told meee
he claimed to be some
environmentalist.
Then I knew why
the detective made me wait.
And I knew why
he couldn’t even get my name straight.
And now we’re
Two hearts on a train to somewhere.
Solving each other’s
mys-ter-ies.
Two hearts on a train to somewhere.
Swapping tales,
and sharing toaster pastries.
Two hearts on a train to somewhere.
She ain’t on the defensive
and the dining car’s expensive.
Two hearts on a train to somewhere.
Laughin’ ‘till we’re cryin’
as the train continues flyin’.
And we thought
of places where he might go.
And we said
other things about him
best not sung on radio, and now we’re
Two hearts on a train to somewhere.
We wonder where he’s been,
but now we’re kinda twins, because we’re
Two hearts on a train to somewhere.
Chowing ice cream
and singing ‘Islands In The Stream’.
