Shut it (and other words)

Ever felt like you’ve been punched by words
like your father, mother, brother, you’re whoever-
who once spoke harsh to you in the past
stood right there before you in another’s shoes.
They tell you, will swear to you even
that it was said in fun, for goodness sake
you’re too sensitive, too defensive
as you feel yourself winded by the blow,
you’ll want to blow them back down
watch them fall- now that you can.
Then they can say from behind cupped hands
that it’s probably just your time of the month.

Oh my goodness! That last,
Oh my goodness! That last, you can't even answer that or theyll smile knowingly like you've just made their point. You can't win. And I hate when someone starts with - 'I don't mean to be rude, ' or 'don't take offense, but...' You just know it's an excuse to be rude and offensive. The only line I wasn't sure of was 'in another's shoes..' But I think that's probably me being stupid. Need to read again in the morning.
The poem flows so well. I like really it.

Yeah, I so totally get that. It comes across in the poem, too, just wasn't sure about the shoes - silly me!
