There is a new drama
about Anne Lister
who to Miss Walker
was more than a sister.
 
She was a woman
determined and fiery
as can be ascertained
from her secret diary.
 
In her journal she wrote:
I only love the fair sex
and that's why her life
was very complex.
 
Of the young heiress
she seemed very fond
and the two women
formed a strong bond.
 
Ann Walker's nature
was sweet and seraphic
and showed a tendency
to a love that was sapphic.
 
Of miss Lister's lovers
there had been a string
but the latest one
seemed the real thing.
 
In 1834 on Easter Day
they both took communion
and got 'wed' in, perhaps,
the first gay union.

They were Anne Lister's secrets which she recorded in code in her journal but her writings were found and decoded and now they are common knowledge.
