Would you like, he said,
to see my etchings?
They are by Modigliani
and are rather fetching.
The girl thought about it
and later told her mother
that she'd met a nice man
who was an art lover.
She had understood that
he had a vast collection
and to show some of it
to her, was his intention.
Her mum was sceptical;
advised her to refuse.
Anyone could see that
the invite was an excuse
by this perverted bloke
to perpetrate seduction.
“It is, my dear daughter,
an elementary deduction.
This man and his art
might probably be fake,
so listen to your mother
for everybody's sake.”
The mater was inclined
to frequently prejudge
and even if challenged
she would seldom budge.
The girl though learned
that he wasn't frivolous.
When they finally met
he was very chivalrous.
He served fresh cakes
from the local bakery,
he was a true gentleman
and there was no fakery.
The parent had to admit
it was useful to discover
one cannot judge a book
by the blurb on the cover.
