Hansel and Gretel - An Update

Their family had sank
to extreme poverty;
to survive they went
to a near food bank.

Hansel and Gretel
found life very hard
and they were unable
to properly settle.

They suffered abuses
but people denied it
and mother and father
accepted their excuses.

Hansel was very brave:
worked 24/7
but was underpaid
and treated as a slave.

A wicked witch tried
to seduce young Gretel
but the clever maiden
put her off her stride.

Everything was fine
once the two teens
spilled the beans
and were given a lifeline.

In the end the offence
of the cads came to light
and brother and sister
got a good recompense.
