There are more than 20 names of birds in this composition. To save people's time I have highlighted them.

We had heard that only fools rush in
and didn’t want to repeat the mistake
that Dell Boy and young Rodney made
when they burst upon a peaceful wake
wearing the capes of Batman and Robin.
So we double checked our invitation
and found that it was a costume party.
Thinking that it’d be a bit of a lark
we decided not to duck the challenge
and proceeded to a specified location
which was reached soon after dark.
The atmosphere was jolly and hearty
and the guests proved to be discerning
in their choice of eccentric apparel.
There was a Pope and a wizard, Merlin;
a Sultan had in tow an odalisque,
a favourite plucked from his harem,
who in so doing had taken a big risk.
Sally, in a crinoline, was Demoiselle
and I her Chevalier, sporting a wig.
Martin, as usual, dressed up as Noddy.
Shirley was Columbine but Harlequin,
whose treatment of her was shoddy,
had strayed and was having a chat
with Mavis, the voracious harpy,
who said she was a Virgo (fancy that!)
and that any sex talk was infra dig.
A statement that was hard to swallow.
He was mesmerised by her great tits
and, though his words sounded hollow,
he swore that he loved her to bits;
he even promised her a precious gift:
a gold ring encrusted with a ruby.
But as Colin had pledged a diamond ring
there wasn’t much chance for the booby.
It was a disappointment for the wag
who had hoped for a change of luck
and thought that the fruit was ripe
and pliable enough for him to pluck.
He was also desperate for a shag,
a wad of coarse tobacco for his pipe,
but was thwarted by the ‘No smoking’ sign.
