I always seem to tell a sad tale
but I can't help being pessimistic;
in my life I've had many knocks
which explains my hard attitude
towards the rest of society.

 

They say I am not an ordinary male;
it has been suggested I am autistic
but it's something my mind blocks.
I'm certain that view is skewed
as it implies uncertainty and anxiety.

 

Although people think that I'm frail
their assumption is too simplistic;
despite being thin I'm strong as an ox.
To say otherwise would be rude
and I'd regard it as an impropriety.

 

Also I am sure they cannot fail
to notice that I am very artistic
when I go out with my paint box.
But because my models are nude,
I have acquired some notoriety.

Well, you were pretty quick too, Luigi. This isn't the one you thought you'd done before is it? You seem to have achieved interesting content and rhyming, and got 4 five-line verses too! Well done! Rhiannon

Well done Luigi - very accomplished. Thanks so much for having a go. We do often wonder if Poetry monthly is useful to people, so it's nice to see the participation - I will let Alfie know his challenge is being appreciated!

I loved the concept of Poetry Montly from the very start and was getting worried that, being so late this month, it might be on the verge of extinction. Luckily, in Noo's absence, you had a substitute available and willing to set the challenge. We all appreciate it, thanks.

I enjoyed this, it's quite complex and clever. It is good to have a brief to work from sometimes since it stretches you to tackle something you might not have tried otherwise. The assumptions people make are often too simplistic and I like the humour at the end.

Very true, Jane. An unknown or unusual brief can provide the stimulus to write something that stands out. I am lazy at times and use rhyming couplets or an ABAB format instead of looking for more challenging and inspirational poetic styles. Much pleased that you liked my effort. Thanks.
