An Italian mum sings
to her little bambino
a children's song
that's called Topolino

which is a translation
of Mickey Mouse
and also the name 
of the car of her spouse.

It is a small vehicle
with an engine capacity
of 500cc, to be driven
with care, not audacity.

It was built by Fiat
in 1936, though
it was only bought
nine months ago.

For this couple,
who exercised thrift,
it seemed to be
the perfect gift

The baby (conceived
on the back seat),
of the two proved
to be the better treat.

What a wonderful car that is Luigi! As is this IP response. Wasn't there another, even smaller fiat with the same name, slightly later? I will go and consult Mr Google..

Hi Claudine, this is what Google says

"The Nuova or 'New' 500 that appeared in 1957 turned the Topolino concept – literally – through 180 degrees. The new car was immediately nicknamed Bambino – Italian for baby – as it was half a metre shorter than the Topolino but had four seats".3 Mar 2009

Thanks Luigi - I think the car I might have been thinking of was either a Messerschmidt or an isetta (my father used to say he bought one once, after writing off a much bigger car - long before I was born so I never saw it)

Yes, I remember the Isetta. It was a BMW bubble car, I think.

It is the first time I've heard of this car Luigi you say a Fiat? The original Mini had a 900cc engine I think and tiny inside they say it's terrible to work on all squashed in no space for the engine those mechanics curse a lot. Also there was a more experimental three-wheel car a DKW make I think halfway tiny car haflway motorcycle. It's a car you know not a sidecart. For cities, now you get some others as well. Used as taxis too.

Babies on the backseats of cars cause accidents. Accidents on the backsears of cars cause babies.

Yes Tom, it was a Fiat 500 and first built in 1936  but modified several times in subsequent years.
