They’ll be fighting, tonight, in Central Park
with razors, flick knives and knuckle-dusters.
The confrontation will happen after dark
highly charged with hostility, not blusters.

A blade will flash
under the streetlight
before
the lethal thrust.

The Jets and the Sharks will face each other
to resolve their dispute once and for all.
Like latter-day Montagues and Capulets
they’ll be fighting, tonight, in Central Park.

Seems so like what is happening today. No wonder wars arise when 'neighbours' don't want to understand each other, and work together and anger/hatred and jealous sparks. Rhiannon

So sad that a 'gang' culture still exists nowadays like the one many years ago which inspired that musical.
Drug dealing, and the demand for narcotics, has a lot to answer for the situation in which the youngsters of today find themselves but we must not forget other causes - too many to describe here - that have contributed to the decline. Our only hope is that solutions to the problem will be found.
