In the tribe there are some peculiar trades: and only once you know them well can you discern them, for example there are decision makers, who are strange old ones who make the policy for the whole tribe or decide on hidden court proceedings to sort out individual cases. Some may have legel expertese, others not at all.
They are all well veneered in respectability. They cover psyhic angles such as overlooking and skills such as morse code.
Name some: sure, toilet bothering - uses focus and specific overlooking. Infective fanny - usually some small woman who's been infected early on, and used to infect people the tribe doesn't agree with. Well paid jobs within the tribe. They have usually up to a certain age, other jobs outside the tribe, because that allows them to be on equal terms to the people the tribe want to sort out. Surveilance work - use of cameras and other such electronics to allow them evidence to blackmail/torture with. Get two together and you have Grotsomes, get a few more and you have Torturers. Get the Decision Makers in and you have a criminal meastermind class going on.

Kitty looked up from the page she was writing on. "I seem to have covered some of it," she said aloud to the cat.
"Oddly I can even understand how it came about. They were all school bullies too. Training started early."

She got up to answer the knock at the door. "Leggings!"
"Yes!" cried Leggings, "Hows the book coming on?" She felt elated, she'd been active at the shop for hours, working on a design between coping with clients and their requests.
"Not sure," said Kitty half laughing, "Was the shop busy?"
"Yes, more than, hey I sold your satsuma outfit twice."
"Woah," Kitty grinned pleased, "You had no confidence in my satsuma's. Sit down I'll make a drink and you can read through the work today, it's open on the computer."
Leggings moved over to the computer desk to read through. She was silent as she read, and thinking back she might have met a few of these in her own life. In her case they'd moved quickly through. "I wonder how old these are?" she said.
"That's a big part of it," said Kitty quietly handing her a drink, "I think they might be older generation, and the younger ones are
just vinegar, and not much talent that way."
"Is much more going on?" Leggings said moving into her leg up, leg down position on the sofa, after kicking off her shoes.
"An early morning delivery with some man who shouts. About six. Sometimes he comes in and knocks and runs round the building."
"Who is it?"
"No idea, on the days I'm up, he doesn't come."
"He's a torturer away, he does on sometimes say it's for me, and then someone else goes out to collect it. I used to find it worrying. Now I don't so much. Then they take whatever it is upstairs to the Grotsomes - if it was mine I surely would have been left a note."
"You would have thought so..."
"Some days I think its just some one who can do different voices - or if - he's involved with someone in the building. You hear his half awake voice later on.
"There's a flat spare near me," said Leggings tentively.
"I'd love too, only I can't afford a move right now. Plus they've said they are going to follow me around as they did before."
"I see, its tough at present money wise, I can't afford to move either and the house is hard to heat."
"I think it's just best to stay here, and write out the whole story in front of them although they are trying to steal it, and claim everything I mention at least twice over. Perhaps I'll get it sorted out in time. I'm not a natural victim, and I'm not part of their dreadful tribe. So one day.... I'll work free of it all."
"Good for you," affirmed Leggings smiling, "First positivity in a long while."
"Is it any good?" asked Kitty, nodding towards the computer.
"It's interesting which is better than I hoped, you'll have to find a way to tell it as a story."
"Yeah!" said Kitty, "Its so long since I took English classes, I keep wondering where to put a full stop, either in or out of speech marks."
"You serious?" asked Leggings, and pulled out a book from the bookshelf, "All you have to look see how others do it!"
"Yes - only - I don't feel they do it right all the time now."
"Modern education!" agreed Leggings.
