Disappointing Utopian Paradise

I have to admit I feel a bit let down
I’ve seen much better sunsets
and that wasn’t much of a lagoon.
There are beautiful young tanned people everywhere
which is nice for them I suppose.
I assumed the Wi-Fi would be free
and that it would work
I can’t even get a podcast here
to listen to on the not as comfy as it looks bed
and the man who wouldn’t shut up
on the airport shuttle bus
has ended up in the room next to me
he insisted I sign up to his mailing list.
They’re all the same these part-time magicians.
I don’t understand the rules of beach volleyball
and I don’t want to be the guy who asks.
This morning I couldn’t open the jar of jam at breakfast
and when I finally did it wasn’t even homemade.
‘Dear sir’ I began
writing my letter of complaint on the sunbed by the pool
imagine my disappointment…’
I really needed just a tiny dose of Utopian paradise.
Maybe next time. Maybe next time.

There always be
There always be disappointment, even in paradise. Love the small details: part-time magicians, jam and spending time on the sunbed writing a letter of complaint. Glad this experience isn't worth aspiring to, sounds pricey.

I did enjoy this poem. That
I did enjoy this poem. That is a great description of what a holiday should be - a utopian paradise. But it can never be quite that good!
