Steelworker on a bicycle

He is out of breath on his bicycle.

This bit of the hill is always a struggle

but he’s got to pedal and pedal because otherwise

he won’t get to work on time.

When he first moved here he couldn’t believe

the lack of a decent bus service. One every hour

at best and nothing until 7.30

don’t they know this is a town of shiftworkers?

He gets a new bicycle every Christmas

it’s a bit extreme but the shop in town

give him a good deal on his old one

because it’s always in such good condition.

When he arrives at work he can’t wait

to get out of his high viz and remove the bicycle clips

and when he gets home he sits on his settee

so happy not to be on a hill on a bicycle.
