The storm

When it arrived I was ready.
I transferred full ownership of my anger to the storm.
I dropped off my keys: Take it for a ride!
I’ve put you on the insurance
I’ve got nothing left to offer!
There had been warnings on the forecast for weeks
we all knew it was coming.
Newsreaders saying we should prepare for the worst
the man opposite got out his hammer and nails
and was boarding up his windows.
The storm started interfering with the TV signal
Wi-Fi had a walking stick
and needed help crossing the road.
‘Oops,’ said the storm. ‘Clumsy me.’
‘I hope you didn’t like those plant pots.’
Buses flipped over
planes were turned inside out like umbrellas
people were told not to leave their homes
and the lady on the news introduced a hurricane expert
who looked scared and warned us
this could go on for some time
there has never been a storm recorded
worse than this and even scientists
were shrugging their shoulders saying I give up
people started thinking this is it.
The world will never be the same
The storm was destroying everything
but then it just stopped
like that moment you stop crying
and start to make some lunch.
