Abuse in The Work Place - The Hidden Problem

Abuse can take many forms .
It is a crime and often it goes unnoticed and unpunished .
To disclose a hidden problem such as abuse is can be difficult .
The scenarios that play out behind the closed doors of work places , homes , and institutions are a serious matter ;
Five headings of abuse .
1 – Verbal harassment .
2- Financial abuse - Illegal or wrongful use of another’s income , rostered shifts , time , money or assets .
3 - Neglect – Not providing proper education , protection , clothes or support .
4- Physical abuse – Hurting another person by hitting , kicking , etc .
5-Psychological Abuse – Humiliating or threatening or intimidating .
6- Sexual abuse or harrassment.
Any behaviour which causes harm to another person is abuse .
Who is the victim
In every situation or relationship the victim is usually isolated and other never see what is going on . The victim can also feel ashamed that some one they trust has done something to them and they often fear what will happen if they tell somebody about what has happened to them At times the victim could feel that he or she is to blame . The victim also can think he or she is the only person in this situation . The victim may be too frightened to speak up for fear of losing their job .
Who is involved
The victim -
Staff members , visitors , friends .
In recent times there have been many cases of unreported abuse causing harm to the innocent . There have been cases in the work place and at home where the victim has been abused by those in charge or those who are guardian or parent and in some cases this has eventuated in loss of income , resignation from their position and grievous bodily harm and death . Some victims turn to suicide after being abused .
The abuser -.
The abuser can be someone is a supervisory role . sometimes a work colleague or an unknown or random person as well as a support team member or friend .
The abuser may have drug or alcohol problems or mental health issues where he or she is not aware of what they are doing . The abuser could be stressed and not able to cope with his or her current situations .
Recommendations for victims
1 -
In order to show the hidden problem of abuse mechanism of reporting and legal assistance need to be easily accessed by those who live in fear of domestic violence ,
2 –
Victims of abuse need assistance to cope with their emotional trauma and require compensation , justice and healing in order to return to a safe and friendly work environment again .
Recommendations for abuser
1 –
The abuser should be made to attend anger management counselling as well as assistance with either cognitive therapy , counselling or medication . All of which could provide a way for the abuser to deal with his or her current problems .
2-
The abuser would have to regain control over his problem with the introduction of working with mental health team and other members of the community to re-establish some positive feeling about life rather than using violence and control of others .
There are many outcomes with this scenario that create a fertile process of rehabilitation .
