Chapter Eight

  Skyruin And The Moon Flowers   

Part 2

 

After they all had dinner, they went to their rooms for a good night rest .Sham was given a big hug by his parents before they closed their bedroom door .

Sham stood looking out his bedroom window at the ocean . The sound of the waves crashing to the shore had a hypnotic effect on him . The wind stared to whisper a

soft melody and within the tune was a voice calling him ,

“Go now , to the place where no one has seen and hear the things where no one had ever been before . Go now “      

 Sham put on his soft shoes and made his way down the stairs and into the street where he walked to the storyteller’s cottage . In through the door to the room where the treasure chest sat , He moved it away and opened up the trapdoor then climbed down the ladder to the bottom where at the end of a long corridor he came to a door.

He opened the door and on the other side he discovered that he was he was standing on top of a mountain with the sound of thunder all around which he thought was a little strange as the sky was clear and cloudless . Then he felt a rumbling under his feet that continued , every now and the noise quietened down , .

Becoming more attentive to his surroundings Sham realised that it wasn’t thunder at all but instead the noise was coming from the out of the ground and not the sky . It resembled a moaning and groaning  then from the hole he saw fire erupting . He made his way to investigate what was going on . Eventually he was standing there beside the hole . He looked down into the hole and couldn’t believe his eyes .

“:Owwa Owaa waaa !”

The  loud noise was a very large dragon jumping up and down on one spot as if it was dancing . The ground shook every time the dragon landed back down  on the ground . Each time the dragon moaned fire came shooting from its nostrils and mouth and up through the hole to the ground above . ‘Aye yaya waa waa !

The dragon continued to make strange noises .that echoed out all around the mountain  . Again, and again the cries and moans continued until Sham couldn’t stand it anymore and he shouted down the hole to dragon .

”Why are you so angry ?”

The dragon stopped moaning . It seemed almost memorised by the sight of little Sham standing there looking down at him from above .

When the dragon tried to speak  it breathed fire from of its mouth .

Sham had no fear and in fact he was excited to see something he had never seen .  . The dragon jumped off the ground again did land with a thud that shook the ground above and below .

 “Ahoo ooo woha whaoo “

 the dragon cried out in a funny but scary kind of dragon sound .

Sham tried not to laugh but couldn’t control himself .

.“Ha ha Ha “

Now the dragon was hopping on one foot but lost his balance and tripped over banging his head on the ground . Now he sat up and began to rub his sore head then he started hopping on the other foot crying out with a weird sound .

“Ahwah awah waa ahwha wha wo woah “

Sham couldn’t control his laughter and was bent over in a fit until he was rolling around on the ground in laughter , kicking both his legs in the air .

The dragon at him and slowly climbed out from the hole to the surface above on the mountain top . He looked with a quizzed expression at Sham and in that same moment it struck a chord with him and hen also started to laugh .  Now after a few moments they were both at ease in their company and when one of them began to laugh the other joined in . The dragon laughed with smoke and fire pouring from the mouth . The Sham joined in uncontrollably until finally they stopped and Sham said .“ So, what’s with the hopping and moaning and jumping and groaning then ?

“Well, I was pretending to be a volcano .“

They both started  laughing again them said.

“Why a volcano . Why not a tornado or wild wind  ? “

“No don’t be silly , volcanos breath smoke and fire just like dragons , so you see I’m just like a volcano .“

Said the dragon and Sham asked  .

“Ok then so how long have you been pretending to be a volcano  ?”

The dragon replied .

“Ever since I had a sore foot , which has been ages .It’s not my fault I have got pain and the only way I can get some relief is to moan . Sometimes I  need to hop and jump . Its help ease the pain in my foot “

“ I’m Sham and maybe I can help . Let me have a look at your foot’ .

‘Pleased to meet you Sham , my name is Skyruin “

The dragon lifted up its sore foot and Sham could see a there was a few thorny spines underneath  the claws on his feet and one by one Sham pulled them out .

Then the dragon lay down and closed his eyes making a beautiful sound  .

“Oooohh ohh yeah thank you  Sham,  all the pain has gone. How can I ever thank you .“

Sham replied.

“Well, the thing was you couldn’t see the thorns under your feet so how would you know . Now they’re all gone so you can live with no more pain so you don’t need top.

The dragon smiled and said ,

“Have you ever been to the moon before ?

“Actually, no I’ve never ever left the Earth before .”

The dragon snorted smoke from its nostrils and said .

“Right, them lets go because I need to go there to eat some moon flowers and you might like to see other things that are there  . “

“Wow I’d love to see that. “

Sham said.

The dragons reached out its foot and said .

Get on my foot and then walk up my leg to my back and then get inside my ears where you’ll be safe . Sham did what he was asked and the dragon said  .

“Up up and a whoosh we go”.

Sham cried out with delight as the dragon flapped its huge wings that propelled them higher and higher and faster and faster until they landed on to the surface of the moon .

“Right now, stay there where its safe and you can see everything my inner ear  .“

To  The dragon made its way over to a large crater and went inside to where these golden trumpet-like flowers were growing . He stared to eat them and reached out a claw  pointing to a clump of thorny bushes .

“ I must have stood on one of those thorny bushed the last time I was here . They’re known as a Smokey Moon Spike Moon Bush  . Thank you, Sham , for removing it from my foot . I’ll have to be more careful from now on where I tread “

Sham was looking all around the surface of the moon and said  .

 “The moon looks like a  very old planet  .“

The dragon replied .

“In a long time ago, this is where we lived . The moon was home for dragons of every shape and size until it imploded destroying life as we knew it on the moon .

Sham  replied ,

 “That’s amazing Skyruin . I hope that things return  as they once were on the moon”.

The dragon replied ,

So do I Sham , ‘Apart from the crystal spring water on the mountain where I live on earth , moon flowers are the only thing that keeps me alive . I have to come here to the as often as I can to feast on moon flowers . They have the chemical my blood requires to circulate properly  .“

“How many dragons live on earth Skyruin ?“

“I’m the last one of our kind Sham . Now let me show you around the moon”.

Sham was interested in everything he saw . The moon had areas where green
sticky plants captured soft white fluffy insects that flew out of little holes inside smoke rocks around the crater’s edges . As the dragon flew higher Sham could see the surface  of the moon glistening in areas where worm liker holes descended deep into craters around the surface .  

“That’s where we used to live Sham inside those craters , below the surface . There is a network of tunnels deep underneath the moon that stretch out in all directions .”

Sham said ,

“Wow everybody on the earth were told there was no life on the moon .”

Skyruin replied ,

‘That’s only because people on earth were told the story there was no life on the moon but the fact is life does exist underneath the surface, not above .After the moon imploded the planet stared to burn up . Gases were released that destroyed all the life on the surface . All the dragons were affected and a few of us left . Now that the moon flowers have returned on the surface there is a chance for a renewal of life as it once was  here “

Sham was astonished and said .

“That is so cool Skyruin . So how long will it take ? ”

“Nothing is ever renewing quickly  . It’s a question of universal energy . That is measured in a different time continuum .So who knows , Sham . In time as  earthlings understand it could take until the end of time .“

“So how old are you now then Skyruin ?”

The dragon replied .

“Let’s just say I’m older than time . Actually now we must return to earth .As you see the moon is creating holes every where and universal light is starting to shimmer  which means there is something called cosmetic healing happening . Lets go Sham for a ride through space before returning back to earth .“

Skyruin punched his feet into the moons surfaces and took flight at an amazing speed through space . Stars and planets whizzing past like streaks of lines illuminated with colourful lights that stretched out as far as the eye could see .

As they abandoned sectors in space tunnels , bright  flashes in sequence opened up doors into pathways where strange spacecraft flew past . Then as Skyruin went through a green mist they were back again on the mountain top on earth .

“That was just the best Skyruin . Space is an amazing place  , It felt like I was on a  spaceship built for time travel .’

After a short time Skyruin said goodbye to Sham and returned deep into the hole where he lived on the mountain. Then Sham returned back ti the door where he had come from  . He made his way along the corridor to the ladder that brought him back inside the storytellers cottage in Chapters End .

He left the cottage and returned back to the guest house where he went up the stairs and into his bedroom .Feeling tired he lay down and went fast asleep in bed .
