Aunt Lily’s Cat
By Paul McCann
Tiddles was Aunt Lily’s cat and she always had a lot to eat
as she wandered in and out all the houses in Jamaica Street .
Everyone thought that she was their cat and they fed her everyday
Tiddles was a fat happy cat and in many houses she’d stay.
We called her Tiddles but she had other names people called her
She had a gentle purr whenever you would stroked her fur ,
Oh to have the life of a cat and pounce around Jamaica Street
and to chase a mouse and creep in and out of every house and sleep
all night and day and feel the loving pat of those who called this and that
and lick my paws and stretch my claws and stretch out there on the doormat
and prowl around different places where no one ever locked me out .
To have many homes where people didn’t care if I walked about .
Tiddles was everyone’s cat and no one knew that till she got was killed.
by the milkman’s truck , he tried to stop , some of the milk had been spilled .
Poor Tiddles lay there as the whole street ran to grieve for their dead cat.
She had a good life and was well loved by many and that’s a fact .
