Between Me And you
By Paul McCann
Between me and you there , across the peace line we would all go
for there was nothing more to do and we all run out of dough .
We stitched up our empty pockets with heartstrings and tattered threads
and put our donkey jackets around us with caps on our heads
All the women all wore scarfs and shawls and they often would say .
I’d love to go to New York if I had some money today .
But we all did our best with what we had and there we would stay
There was no one any better off than anyone today .
Sure many people knew exactly how we all had to live
With just a few old coppers from somebody well off who would give.
]As a gift to make you go dancing all the way up their path.
We always did funny little things for a bit of a laugh ‘
Between me and you , it’s true, there was a bit of magic there .
It made us feel good about all the hard times we had to share
Sometimes it was like we lived out a never ending story
filled with adventures seeking out wonder and glory.
Between me and you , we found out , the best things in life were free .
Our imaginations allowed us to dream of what could be .
