Chapter 8
Mr Bubumpkin And The Magic Mushrooms
Jenny woke up with the sunshine streaming through her bedroom window , She cradled her favourite soft toy between her arms looked out at the snow on top of Smokey Mountain . The snow had already covered all of the Olden Hills around Sunny Valley . Although it was known as Sunny Valley in the winter it was more like Frozen Valley with frozen ice stopping the flowing water that run in between the mountain and hills . Jenny always like to think about Smokey River in the winter and called it the river of dreams . In her imagination she liked to think underneath the icy surface the water from the river of dreams ran away out to the Mermaid Sea .
On top of Smokey mountain she liked to think there was a frozen castle where a crazy inventor built machines like Crackpot cookers for crazy chefs and Tumble cars for people who liked to spin around town in a different way . Jenny liked to sing in the morning before breakfast and her voice has an enchantment that called the birds to come and join in with her . Downstairs her mother was already cooking fish in a frying pan and called out to Jenny to come down for breakfast .Jenny raced off right away case fisy on a Friday was her favourite breakfast treat .
After breakfast she looked out the window at Smokey Mountain and noticed a purple mist descended over it which meant only one thing , The Emperor was sending a sign .
She told her Mum and Dad she was going to build a snowman with some school friends and she would be back for lunch .Then went out the front door to await another sign from the Emperor
An ice cream van came down the street playing a little tune that Jenny had heard before in the Emperors garden and knew she had to follow the van . After walking for a little while she noticed a house with a tall snowman in the front garden with a Welcome Back sign in his hand . On the roof of the house purple smoke was pouring out from the chimney pots .
She made her way to the front door and it opened by itself .
Inside the parlour the Emperor stood.
“Welcome back little one . Would you like to have a walk through the garden today ”
He asked.
“Yes please ‘ Jenny said
He took pointed to the bookcase and said ,
“Well , you know where the key is little one . Enjoy your time “
Jenny took the key from on top of the bookcase and slid the bookcase to one side and opened the door . On the other side of the door the sun was brightly shinning . The flowers were blooming everywhere and there was a man working on a vegetable patch . He waved at Jenny and she went over .
“Hello there , my name is Mr Bubumpkin . Welcome to my vegetable plot and let me tell you they’re not ordinary plants , they are extraordinary plants with a special gift for everyone ?”
Jenny looked and saw lots and lots of mushrooms and amongst them were bluebells , buttercups and some funny baby honeysuckles trees
“Hello Mr Bubumpkin., I’m Jenny and I love your all those plants and flowers you have there in your plot .”
“Hip Hip Hooray , Jenny you’ve made my day “
Then he started to sing and as he did a small Glitchy Green Fly flew over and rested on Jennys shoulder and whispered in her ear ,
“ He often sings and tells stories to his plants and all the creatures who live here in his magic plot garden . Everyone loves to listen to his voice . “
Caramel the Cuckoo Bird a little jealous of Mr Bubumpkins singing voice .
She can’t sing that well and can only sing one word , see that’s why she is never happy whenever he sings his songs “
“Maybe Mr Bubumpkin should teach Caramel some new words , that make her happy when he sings .”
”What a great idea, I’ll whisper that into his ear later .“
After Mr Bubumpkin stopped singing he started to tell stories to his plants and suddenly all these small animals came over to listen . Mr Bubumpkin had many friends who loved his stories , the dragonfly’s always brought him sweet sugar frosted petals and the speckled frogs from the freckled log in the pond often came with jokes and croaks in their throats to make him laugh and keep him happy . There was the winds of wonder that often brought a special kind of hush as he told his stories with a whistle in his voice and a soft echo for their ears to bring the stories alive .
Suddenly in the middle of the story a purple mist came down on the vegetable patch and the bluebells started ringing and the mushrooms jumped up out of the ground and started dancing and prancing around while the honeysuckles
