Lolo And The Land Of Dreams
By Paul McCann
After his wife died Lolo lived alone in the silence of his house on the hill in Edensgreen village . He loved the weekends because that was the time when his grandkids came to visit . He enjoyed the little shows they put on for him . Unrehearsed dancing and singing , with the constant sounds of laughter and squeals that filled his house all of the day and when evening would come , their parents went out to dinner and then it was Storytime with Lolo who was always able to share some of his stories to his grandchildren .
He had a mild and mighty command of his voice that could conjure up sounds of animals and birds as well as howling winds and pouring pain .
He had stories as old as the hills about a time when fairies dwelled all over the land . He spoke of legends that would never grow old in a land where standing stones talked around magic rings on pastures of peace and innocence .
On this night , just before the children went to bed they sat around in a circle waiting for another one of his stories ,
“Tell us the story about the land of dreams Lolo ”
Said one of the children .
Lolo, closed his eyes and thought for a moment then he took a deep breath and said with a soft whisper .
“Well then let me see , ah yes, that’s right “
All the little children moved a little closer and listened intently.as Lolo continued
“The land of dreams was discovered long before the oceans rose and claimed the valleys and plains then was found again after the villages and farms sank down into the bogs and I have been told by a very reliable source that in a once upon a time when there was too many Kings wanting to sit on the throne’s and not enough time to accommodate them all , there was a scroll found in a cave on the very top of a mountain that mentioned how the land of dreams came to be ,
The scroll told the story about the beginning of a new age when a darkness had fallen over all the land and the sun had disappeared from the sky . In the night the stars shone no more during the war among the forces of good and evil in the supernatural realms . There was a great conflict then in the universe and the elements were of earth , fire, water and light were being tested .
During the war an almighty wrath was felt in the universe and the victory of goodness had prevailed over the dark forces of the outer realms . After the war some changes had to be made . All the dark forces were expelled to the underworld for an eternity to live out their existence without light or favour from the Mighty one .
Some of the other changes made included a separation between the creatures of kindred spirits who were all were discharged from their roles into sections along with all of the fairy kind who were send out from Paradise into the Land Of Dreams to live forever on the outskirts of the outer realms of Paradise .
The fairies were still recognised as good beings but had to be expelled from Paradise because they refused to take any action to fight against the dark forces during the war and from that moment on the fairies had to spend an eternity in the land of dreams which was their punishment for not fighting against the dark forces .
So little ones there in the land dreams the fairies live and even today their songs and stories can still be heard and the echo of their words travel through the winds of time to reach the four corners of the earth .
There is a bridge between the land of dreams and the earth where children are allowed to cross until the day when their years of enchantment have gone .
During the early years of enchantment while children are still innocent they are able to travel to the land of dreams where they can find that special magic that belongs to the fairies and discover all the dreams that have been locked away in cages and vaults kept by the wise ones of the realm who often travel between all the realms of the universe So little ones its time now to close your eyes and drift away where the fairies play in the land of dreams until the sun shines down again and another day comes around to find us here on the streets where we live “
Lolo stopped talking and looked around at all the little children who were all fast asleep on the floor around him . He gently carried them all one by one and lay them down on beds in the spare rooms . Then he sat down by the fireplace and stared into flames that leapt as if they were dancing to a tune from a unseen fiddler in the night
Suddenly out from the fire jumped a couple of fairies . Some of them were singing , some were playing fiddles and others were laughing and dancing .
One of the fairies jumped up at stood on Lolos shoulders and spoke.
“Hello there Lolo, sure your days of enchantment are still alive and well I see”:
Lolo nodded his head and said,
‘Indeed, they are and I see you still dwell in between the realm where you have been sent and here among us on the earth “
The fairy replied.
“‘Neither time nor friend or foe can banish us from where we exist Lolo”.
He smiled and said,
“Yes, that’s true and I am still enchanted myself , like when I was a child dressed in dreams of wealth and in my innocence, I could see the magic that you are able bring from the land of dreams.. You gave me horses to ride with fairy wings and through the sky I could fly with saddlebags filled with enchanted things, like fairy rings to make wishes come true and stars to shine in my eyes from the rainbows end, ”
The fairy replied.
“The hidden things that are yours are mine as well and they help us in many ways every day in the land where fairies and children play . That is where we can fly here and there .as if we are walking on air in the realms of light but we must keep out of sight as you know Lolo “
He replied.
“ How often I have seen you come here into my room dancing and singing as you do in the late afternoons and through the night . “
The fairy said ,
“Sure, that’s true Lolo , because your innocence is still in your heart so your enchantment has never come to an end and fairies are still your absent friends which means we can still come around anytime anywhere .“
Lolo replied ,
“ I can still remember well those days when I was young and life was so happy in many ways .“
Suddenly the fairies all jumped back into the fire and the flames leapt higher and higher and then eventually settled into the glowing embers .
The children’s parents returned from their night out and looked at Lolo and said ,
“Thank you, Dad . You’re wonderful ,don’t know how you do it but every time we bring the kids you are always able to get them off to sleep ?
“Well, it’s probably because I’ve had lots of practise , you see , your Mother and I had seven of you to teach us what to do.”
Everyone laughed and one by one they took their children from the beds where they slept and then they carried them out to the car ,
Then they returned and kissed his cheek and said ,
“Well see you next weekend Dad . Thanks for being there again for us.:”
He smiled and said ,
“I’ll look forward to that , Drive safe now”
He closed the door and got ready for bed .

This was such an enchanting
This was such an enchanting story. What a wonderful man LoLo is, he's the type of Grandfather I would have loved. It's such a shame that when people grow up they loose the magic of believing.
I very much enjoyed reading and thank you so much for sharing.
Jenny.
