The Moth's Song
By Paul McCann
In the vale around the golden meadows of Itschamore , a hermit monk sat upon one of the standing stones meditating and chanting mystical tones that were like echoes from the past , heard by no one at the dawn of the day .
As another sunrise arrived shafts of light fell down upon cobwebs that had been spun on willow trees and the sparkling dew was captured on the gossamer strands that glistened in the sunlight .
Spiders awaited the early opening of cocoons where sleeping moths had taken shelter a long time ago when all they could do was crawl over the ancient grounds of Truffle Vale .
Summer had come early and wild flowers had scattered colours of life all over the meadows . Life was tranquil and beautiful and there was a sense of wonder everywhere .
After getting permission from the Sun King the first moth appeared out from its cocoon . The mother of nature had closed the eyes of the spiders for a brief moment to allow the moth to escape and take flight and in seconds her summer excursion had begun in search of truffles and feather bread in the forest nearby .
Through the dark corridors of bog oaks and lichen the moth flew close to the forest floor where she stopped every now and then to rest and take a deep breath before taking flight again . Learning to fly came naturally and she made her way through magical mist to a place where a steamy cloud of vapour rose out from an underground spring . The scent of truffles was very strong now and in a very short time the moth was walking over the top of a small crop of soft ancient truffles .
After eating some of the fungi she began to hallucinate and was soon sitting on a leaf that was carried by the wind to a lake where other moths had gathered to share their visions of life . The moth from Truffle Vale spoke about her vision that no one else had seen in a future time when the seasons of life never changed and pools of light were shinning bright in a space were time stood still and fairies were opening doors to explore secret meadows that existed within the minds of moths who were able to go floating om the thoughts of love in an existence where every creature on the earth could find an escape to see and feel like a human for a brief moment .
The moth was at ease being a human enjoying life , walking among the truffles paths in the forest vale , as the birds sang songs and the wind carried the songs .
The moth began to sing a song about the changes she had been through and how she felt about life , She was encouraged with her singing by other creatures who had also meta morphed into human like beings who began to applaud and cheer as she sang .
hThe moths song explained how she could fly like a bird for the very first time and how she wished that life was always thiway .
When her song came to an end she felt at peace and drifted away on a breeze that carried her to the golden hills near to where standing stones in a circle stood .
The monk had gone and all that was left was a glow of twilight in the sky and the sun soon disappeared out of the sky .
The End
