The Weekly Wonder

Jane was one of the prettiest girls you’d ever hope to meet .
At 16 she had a drivers license, no ties or hangers on,a positive outlook and brains to burn . But university wasn’t where she wanted to go .
Jane gad decided she was doing to leave school and enter the workforce .
Time was running out as the final year at school was almost over .

Jane started looking around for a job . She did all the usual job seeking activities . With her very creative mind she put together an impressive curriculum vitae even thought she had never done a days work in her life .

She read through all the positions vacant ads in the papers and wrote letters to prospective employers .

She started placing work wanted posters in shop windows and on public noticeboards . One day she went cold canvassing and took a chance on asking for a job in one of the most expensive new car dealerships in the City .

She walked confidently straight into the managers office and said ,
“I want your job .“

The manager was really impressed with the way she spoke and answered .“
“I like that . They call me Robbo round here , what’s your name ?”

“Jane’s the name.”

“Tell you what Jane . I’ll give you a chance , You’ll start selling our top line vehicles , but there is a catch , you must sell one car each week to keep your job . If you don’t sell a car by the end of the week, then you’ve lost you job .”

“Ok , I’m up for it . When do I start .“

“What about tomorrow morning . “
Came the reply .

“ Cool , what time Robbo ? “

Robbo stood up from behind the desk and reached out a friendly hand saying
“Seven sharp . Welcome to the team Jane .“

Jane could hardly believe her luck and couldn’t wait to go home and tell her parents .
Next morning she was up and dressed and ready for her first day in a job .

She managed to convince her boss that the best way to sell those very expensive cars was not to wait for customers to come into the yard but instead to bring the car to the buyer . Jane got permission to take the car out of the yard and onto the road with the prospect of selling it .

Jane drove away in a car worth a fortune and thought to herself who would be interested in this kind of car and who would have that kind of money available.
As she drove along the freeway she saw a horse racetrack adjacent to the road . A large sign displayed that there would be a race meeting today .

She thought to herself . Of course , horse owners have lots of money and just maybe she would be able to blend in amongst them and work her way into their hearts and pockets .

She drove off the main road following the signs to the track . When she turned
Into the members car park she was stopped by an attendant who asked for some Identification . Jane got out of the fancy car and put on a thick overseas accent .

“Oh hi . I’m actually a horse owner and I’m here on business . I’m part of a large syndicate who are interested in a few of the runners here today . My connections have told me to come over here and watch some of those horses go around . Now if you don’t let me park my car in here , I’ll be heading straight back to where I came from . “

The car park attendant opened the gates and waved her into the members car park where she parked her car as close to the racetrack as possible . Then she took a few photos of it with her mobile phone before making her way to the members grandstand . On the top lever of the grandstand was the main bar and restaurant where she sat down at a table overlooking the track .
She checked out everyone .

Her attention was fixed on a group of four . She could tell by the fashion and clothes that they were wealthy .There were two well dressed young men with two beautiful ladies . They seemed very excited after watching a horse just win a race . She overheard a few things they had said and assumed they were horse owners ..
This was her opportunity to sell her first car .
She made her way over to speak with them . She addressed one of the ladies

“Excuse me . I’ve never been here before and was wondering where the ladies toilet is . “

“Just take the door to the left and follow the signs .”
“Oh thank you . I just love that dress you’re wearing . Is it from a famous designer ?”

“Its something I picked up on my last trip to Europe .“

“How beautiful it looks on you . Thank you . My name is Jane . Pleased to meet you .“

‘I’m Marie and these are my friends Jack , Gary and Cassie .”

“Hello “
Said Jack
“Are you a horse owner ?“

“Well kind of but not really . I’m here on business for an overseas syndicate who collect horses . I myself collect fast cars but hey, they all have horse power right ?”

Everyone laughed .
Gary reached out his hand .
“Pleased to meet you Jane . My name is Gary .“

“How do you do Gary . Are you a horse owner ?“

He smiled and said .

“Yes . We’re all part a syndicate .“

“What a thrill it must be for you . How many horses have you ?“
Jane said .

Marie replied ,
“Well we own the horse that won that last and three others .“

“Wow I just watched that race . What as great horse you have there . It won easily . You all must be so proud . “
Said Jane .

“Its all a bit of fun for us .“
Said Jack , Jane replied

“So how much would a horse like that cost .“
“Two million .“
“Will you make some money on that investment ?
Jane asked ‘

Gary said .

“Yes we’re all very excited about our prospects . So you were saying you collect cars . I love cars myself . How many do you have ?

‘I have a yard full of them . I drive a different one each week . “

Jane took out her mobile phone and showed him the photo she had taken in the car park of the car she was in .“

Gary looked at it and said .

“Cool car . American muscle isn’t it ?”

Jane replied .
Yeah sure is .Its a Chevrolet Corvette .
“Can I have a look . “
Said Cassie . Jane handed over her mobile with the photo of the car displayed . When Cassie saw the Corvette she said .
“Oh yes I want one of those . That’s exactly the kind of car I’m after .. The look , the colour , everything . How much did it cost ?”
“On the market they’re fetching around two hundred thousand but I have a friend in the business and I got if for half that price .“
“You’re kidding me .”Cassie said
“No its true . I picked it up with just a few hundred kilometres on the clock for a hundred grand .“
“Get out of here .“
Cassie said .
“Yeah a real steal . Its got 638 Horsepower, goes from zero to 60 mph in four seconds. “
Cassie was hooked .
“Do you think you get me the same deal . “
“If you’re really interested I’ll have a talk to my friends and get back to you”
“Oh yes I’m interested . I’ve been looking for something like that . Today I’ve made a little money on the track . So I guess you being here is like a good omen . Here’s my business card . Set up a deal and get your friend to ring me .“
“Ok . No problem . Now I really must rush off to the ladies .“

“Nice meeting you . We’ve got to go now . Look forward to hearing from your friend soon .“

Jane said her farewell and off she went back to the members car park .
She was back in the car yard with the hour with the prospects of her first sale . Robbo made the call to Cassie and confirmed who he was and a deal was made over the phone . He was immensely satisfied with Janes first day on the job .
She now had almost two weeks to sell another car of her choice . She had a walk among the stock and decided to go for a BMW Convertible .
That evening as she drove home she thought about where would target next for a sale . Then out of the blue she felt like a little celebration on her to mark the achievement of selling her first car in the new job so she decided to call into a night spot in the city . After she parked the car she stopped to ring her parents and tell them that she would be home late .
She heard music blasting out from a place called Hard City and thought it was worth a look . Once inside she made her way to the bar . She looked much older than she was and was never questioned or asked for Identification .
She took her drink and took a quiet seat . She watched the young girls dance . She saw a dude from her neighbourhood and went to say hello .
“Hi Jane . How are you ?”
”Just fine Pat . What about you “ :
She said .
“I’m ok . So what brings you here to this part of town?“
“Celebrating my first day on the job.“
Just then some guy walked over a handed Pat a small bag and said .
“Where’s the cash for the hash man ?

Pat quickly handed over some cash . Jane smelt some business and felt out the scene using Pat as her way in .
“Hey Pat , I didn’t know you used drugs.”
“ Its been my scene for years now Jane . Would you like to you try some of the gear I have ?”
“ Pat another time . I’ve got to get uprly in the morning . My new job’s going well and I don’t wand to stuff it up . Is that ok”
“No problem , well I’ll be seeing you .”
Jane saw a big chance to get involved with the underworld money and needed a way in . She decided to take the risk .
“The person I usually score from has run dry . Could you introduce me to your dealer .”
“ You’re a lucky girl Jane cause he’s in here tonight , I don’t normally see him here . But a big score just went down and a lot of money changed hands.”
“Do me a favour Pat . Could you introduce me to him ?”
“Wait here . I have a word . He’s got some heavy duty protection with him ”
“Ok thanks .“
She knew it was a risky venture but if she didn’t try she’d never know .
Pat returned and asked Jane to follow him . He walked outside to where a car was waiting on the street . He tapped on the passenger window that dropped down to reveal a young man who smiled .
“Hello Jane . I’m Mick . My good friend Pat has informed me you need to score some drugs . So what kind of drug are you after ?”
“I’m after some cocaine .“

“Do you believe in God Jane ?“
“Why’s that Mick ?”
“Somebody told me once Gods way of telling you that you’ve too much money is by giving you a cocaine habit .”
“Well . I guess there’s some truth in that .”
“I have a small amount with me that will cost you five hundred . Is that too much for you .“
“No I just need to get back to my car . My purse is in my handbag in the boot . Is there any chance you could drive me to where I’m parked ?”
“Ok . Get in and show me where your car is .“
Mick turned to the driver and said ,
“Hey man , can you open the door for Jane “
The driver got out opened the back door , Jane got in and buckled up .
Jane took them to the Beamer and she could tell by the look on Micks face that he was very impressed . He got out and walked around the car .
“Sweet Jane . What model is this .“
“It’s the latest 6 series . 650i .“
“Now that’s what I call a cool machine . What is it worth .“

”I have a friend in the business and he let me have it for just under a hundred thousand .“
“So tell me Jane how come a girl so young has got so much money .“
“Well I’m from a very wealth family .“
“I’d like to get to know you Jane . I’d like to have this coke on me . Ok call it a good will gesture . But only if you say yes to dinner at my place and give me the contact of that friend of yours in the car business “
She took the coke and handed him Robbos business card . Then she said
“I’d love to have dinner with you . What night and where ?”
He handed her a business card .
When you arrive at my front gates tomorrow evening , say about 6pm , just punch in 2020 on the electric keyboard . The gates will open up and just follow the driveway to the front reception . I’ll have someone there to look after you and bring you inside .“
“Ok Mick . See you tomorrow .”
Mick and his driver drove off at speed . Jane called Robbo on his home number to share the news of another possible deal and explained the situation to him .
The next day when Jane went in to work Robbo was waiting at the door for her . He reached out his hand and they shook on the deal that had just been made .
“I’m more than impressed Jane two cars in two days . Keep this up and you will have my job .“
She went for a walk around the yard and choose another BMW 6 Series convertible . She asked for an early mark and explained it was work related. Robbo never hesitated to let here go . She went to the hairdresser and had a facial while she was there . When she arrived at Micks inner city mansion and followed the instructions to gain entry to the place . Within a moments she was met at the front door by two security guards who took her into the large dining room where hundreds of candles were lit in her honor . Mick was sitting at one end of the large table and a place was set for Jane at the other end .
Mick got up and presented her with some red roses and said .
“Welcome to my home Jane . I’m so glad you could make it .“
Jae accepted the roses .
“How did you know my favourite flowers were roses.”

“Just a lucky guess I suppose .
Jane noticed there were cameras on the ceiling and it made her feel uncomfortable . Eventually she put the roses on the table and then sat down .

“I hope I’m not intruding . You must be such a busy man .“

Jane said . Mick returned to his seat and said ,
“Not at all Jane , see I’m the boss of this organization and I can take time off when ever I like.”

Jane wanted to take the topic of discussion somewhere else and said .
“So how did you go with my friend in the car business ?”

“Thank you . I spoke with Robbo . He’s a very friendly man who spoke highly of you . I’ve actually already bought a car from him . Its almost exactly the same as the one you have . I’m really happy with it .“

“I’m so glad Mick . This is a beautiful place you live in .“

Its one of a few I own . See Jane , I like beautiful things in my life and that’s why I’ve asked you to join me for dinner . After dinner I’ve a proposition I’d like to run past you .“

“That sounds intriguing . “

After dinner Mick looked across at Jane and said ,
“Jane I’m just going to come right out and say it . I would like to offer you a job as my personal escort . I travel the world and entertain lots of people in my line of work . You will make me look good and I want you to just be there at my side . Its strictly all on a professional basis . “

Jane felt uneasy but it was such a tempting offer that she had to say yes but before she did she wanted to clear the air about who she was and what she did for a living .

“Before giving you my answer I’ve something I need to tell you . I work for Robbo and sell cars for a living .”

Micks looked shocked and said .
“You’ve got to be kidding me . You actually had me fooled .“

Jane replied .
“I’m really sorry Mick but the deal is I have to sell one car every weel or else I’ll loose my job “

Mick answered .
How long have you worked for him ?”
“Just two days and you’re the second sale I’ve had .“

Mick couldn’t control himself and started laughing, then said .
“Its very rare that I’m actually taken in by anyone . But you Jane have really sent me in a spin .“

“Oh and another thing Mick I don’t take drugs . I only wanted to score so I could meet some people behind the scenes with the possibility of making another car deal .“

“Jane I saw an innocence in you and one of the reasons I asked you here for dinner was to find out more about you . My instincts are always correct believe me , I’ve been around a long time and know how to judge someone’s character.“

“I also saw in you an innocence . I know you’re some kind of gangster but I see a better man . That’s why I accepted your dinner invitation this evening and wanted to get everything out there . So I’m so glad we’ve cleared the air . Now if you still want me to be your personal escort I’d be delighted but I still need to work for Robbo as well .“

“Jane I must be crazy but my offer still stands . I’ve never actually had anyone in my life I could say I trust but I think I could with you .“

Jane smiled and said ,
“So do I get the job .“
Mick looked puzzled and said ,
“ Why do you need to work for the car yard . The job I am offering pays extremely well and there will be a lot travel to do . ”

“It’s the principle Mick . Robbo gave me a go and I feel I owe him . I made a promise that I would try to sell one car a week and I want to keep trying to do that .”

” Jane , let me help you . I will put the word out there and you will be the contact person they will speak to . I can’t do more for you than that . Ok ?“

Jane agreed and was now orchestrating 2 careers . Everything was going along well . With Micks help she had a good source of customers appearing which gave her more time to give to her career with Mick .

But only a few people had the knowledge of where Jane and Mick were living  With new identities they were living together as man and wife in a well hidden spot on a mountain top where no one would ever find them .
