The two bin liners shredded by manicured nails and the weight of expensive knickers, silk dresses and cashmere finally vomited their contents just as she reached the front door.
“Perfect, just perfect”
Veronica opened the door wide, braced herself and slammed it shut hard and loud.
The noise rocketed down the narrow corridor, a sonic boom to explode into the two storey penthouse.
Wait for it,
Wait for it, ………
“Shit”
She opened the door , this time when it slammed shut the light in the hall died.
Wait for it,
This time, ………………………….
“Shit, Shit”
Opening the door again she took a moment to compose herself. A few deep breaths. Remove the shoes to get better purchase in the deep pile wool carpet.
Both hands firmly wrapped around the thick walnut panelled door. This time the door didn’t slam shut, it thundered into the place with the force of a hurricane wind.
She waited as the thunder echoed through the apartment only to evaporate, leaving silence once more. Casually she turned to the direction he would spring from. Picturing the desperation on his face as he pleaded with her to stay.
Wait for it,
Wait for it, …………………………………………..
Reaching out towards the door she slowly, quietly, locked it.
Veronica surveyed the kaleidoscope of her wardrobe strewn across the floor.
“Next time I’m taking the luggage to”
Bending she silently stuffed the offending items into the remnants of two black bags and padded away on bare feet.
