"Stop! Get away from me!" She shoved him aside and made way into the next room.
"Elisia wait!" Marlo called after her, desperately.
"No. You used us. We were just another stepping stone for you. I TRUSTED you!" The door slammed.
"Elisia!" Marlo slumped over in his chair. He couldn't deny it. They were the reason he was able to get so far. And it was fair to say that he had only became friends with them for that reason. However, Marlo had zero intention of hurting them. He hadn't meant to hurt anyone. He sighed and held his head in his hands. Was he going to be able to fix this?
The radio chimed in the corner of the room. Static. Then--
"Elisia? Marlo? It's Jac-- The Wraiths! They're Here! I don't know how they found us---"
There was more static. Marlo ran over to the radio, "Jac?! Jac?!"
A scream.
"Elisia!" Marlo ran to the window and his face paled. He could see Jac's ship. It was in flames, black billowing smoke trailing behind Jac as his ship plummeted to the earth. Marlo saw Elisia start running towards where the ship would crash.
"Elisia wait! There are Wraiths!"
"Why do you care?!" She hollered back. She was going to save her friend. She HAD to.
Then she heard the crunch of metal as it hit the ground. She heard the pop of the engine exploding. She saw the flames soar into the sky. She was shaking, but she couldn't stop running. There was no way Jac would die. She would find him. She would save him.
Reaching the crash sight, she quickly began rummaging through the rubble. "Jac! Jac!" Tears were streaming down her face now. She couldn't lose him. Then she saw his leg. It was poking out from the crushed cockpit. Her gut dropped. She held down the reaction to vomit. "Jac?" She ran over and began clearing the metal on top of him.
He was breathing still. A sigh of great relief ecaped her. It was almost guilty. She pulled him out carefully, and dragged him away from the toxic crash sight. When they were clear, she inspected his body and he seemed mostly intact.
"Jac? Jac?" She whispered. What if he suffered head trauma? Tears were running down her face. She didn't know what she would do without him.
"Elisia?" Came a disgruntled groan.
She squeaked. "Oh Jac!" She held him close, crying into his chest, "You're okay now, I've got you, you'll be okay."
"Elisia--" Jac coughed painfully, "The Wraiths, they're here, they boarded the ship, I couldn't let them reach you and Marlo--" He started hacking violently.
"Shhhh.... shhh... It's fine, I'll bring you back to the base, and we'll patch you up." She caressed his hair lightly before hefting him up into a standing position. She lifted the majority of his weight on her shoulders and began the slow hobble back to base.
When they made it back, Elisia laid Jac carefully onto the couch. She pulled out the first aid and began to treat his wounds. She didn't know where Marlo was, but she hoped he would leave them be. She didn't want to fight in front of Jac. Not now, when he needed care.
Elisia peeled away some of the cloth sucking at a wound in his leg. And she paled again. There were toothed suction marks all over him. How had she missed this before? This time she did throw up.
Wraith bites did two things: they poisoned their prey into a catatonic state, as well as laid their eggs into the flesh. If the eggs weren't removed properly, it would release a toxin into the host that would immediately kill them. The poison itself was a different manner. One had to drink the blood of a Wraith in order to cure that and it had to happen within forty-eight hours of the initial bite.
"Elisia? Is Jac okay?" Marlo knocked on the door softly.
"No. He's not. He's got Wraith poison and eggs in his blood, and unless one of those bloody suckers is still whole enough at the crash sight, he's going to die."
